With the passing of Bergman, I am interested in reading a book on great filmmakers--something that devotes 1 chapter each to a filmmaker. Anyone know of any?

For general, quick, chapter-length bios, there are some great ones out there on the net. I don't know of a volume such as you describe.

I'm actually very interested in reading full-length bios on Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa and other legendary filmmakers. Can anyone recommend any great biographies like that?

I have a big John Ford bio on my nightstand, authored by Joseph McBride, but I'm hoping to see a few more of Ford's films before diving into it.

It's not what you're looking for, but Bergman's autobiography "The Magic Lantern" is a great book to snuggle up to.
