Hello,
I bet most redusers are very familiar with this monitor: Panasonic BT-LH1700WP HD

I'm having some issues with properly calibrating it and was wondering if anyone has a specific set of "numbers" that they're using.

If yes, would you mind sharing.

Thanks

Hi,

I find my panasonic hd monitors dead on with an HDSDI signal from a Varicam or an F900 with the monitor set to the presets - ie the green values. When using Red, I have to adjust it to get it to look right. Little chroma desat, little phase. I was just on a job with the above monitor and Reds on build 20, and noticed that the monitor was not at the factory settings.

I would just have the red spit out some bars and calibrate the monitor from there. At least you know what you are getting that way.

Those Panasonic 17s are decent field production monitors but be realistic about the finer points of density and color in terms of calibration. Its also worth taking into account that even with the new color science the monitor outputs from the RedOne are an approximation of what is recorded as RAW image data.

With many HD cams the HD-SDI output is exactly the same as the image being recorded. With proper set up even a mid-level monitor like the 17 inch Panny can give you practical WYSIWYG feedback. With the RedOne the real deal is in the RAW, not the video tap. This is particularly an issue with subtle color casts. As an example, the 17" Pannys are a little green biased to begin with and the RedOne monitor tap can shift green rather easily, particularly on higher intensity colors in the white/yellow/gold range. YMMV.

I have also found that the 1700 never needs more than a few clicks from the defaults to have perfect bars.
