Anyone know how I can transfer the metadata I entered (custom fields) in Clipfinder to Avid Media Composer?
I read in the Clipfinder help that I can export the metadata by drag and drop into a spreadsheet program or text editor. Didn't work for me. Even if it did, I wouldn't know how to import metadata into Avid.
Unfortunately, I transcoded with RedRushes and not clipfinder.

I don't know exactly, but if included as part of the ALE export, then it is done by that process. If it is just using the ALE export as done by REDline, then it is not.

I'm afraid as far as I can tell no. ALE produced by clipfinder mirrors one generated by redline even when custom fields are entered ie.
Heading
FIELD_DELIM TABS
VIDEO_FORMAT 1080
FILM_FORMAT 35mm, 4 perf
AUDIO_FORMAT 48khz
FPS 24
Column
Name Tape Camera Clip Tracks Start End FPS UNC
Data
A001_C001_080723.mov A001_C001_080723 A 001 V 10:37:48:00 10:52:28:06 24 /Volumes/BigMama/testing123/A001_C001_080723.RDC/A010_C001_080723_001.R3D
It would be nice - I always enter scene, take, mos, etc. info into metadata and would be thrilled if it could be carried through and not just as a reference pdf, xml etc.

Noel is right - Clipfinder does not currently export the metadata with the ALE.
But I do see the value of having the metadata in the ALE and I'd be happy to add this.
What about the following
- For each populated annotation field, Clipfinder will add a column to the ALE
- Column name will be the field name in Clipfinder, prefixed with "CF_" (so as to avoid name conflicts with existing fields)
Does that make sense ?
Cheers,
Hans

That would be great! Is there a way (or will there be a way) to import metadata into FCP?
Thanks, Hans! You rock!

Jeff,
Metadata import into FCP (and back) is available and is covered in the "What's new in Clipfinder 2.2" section in the integrated help pages (CMD-?).
Cheers,
Hans

Awesome! I've only been using Clipfinder for a week or so and I love it! Sorry I've only had time to reference the help files and not read them all the way through. I will soon.

Hans -
The Logging and Metadata whitepaper on avid.com will let you map those additional columns to proper Avid columns making it easier for some workflows to already have them mapped properly - such as scene, take, comments, etc.
