View Full Version : Clipfinder "Run Conform on FCP XML File" Problem

I'm trying to perform a "Run Conform on FCP XML File" on a sequence of transcoded QTs so I can grade it in Color using the H proxies. When I do the "run conform" in Clipfinder it says "Replaced 30 of 30 clips," yet there are more than 30 cuts in the sequence, and when I open the XML in Color, there are 68 clips in the Shots window.
In Color, only the first instance of a clip shows up. The subsequent instances are marked with a red X. What's going on here? Did I render my XML from FCP incorrectly? Did I do something wrong in Clipfinder?

If you send me the conformed XML I will have a look at it and check if there is anything wrong.

Hans

Just sent you a PM. Your help is much appreciated.

Got the file.
It looks ok at first sight.
There are 68 cuts but only 30 different clips, e.g. clip "B001_C046_02077U" is used 4 times.
If you use "Import Clips from FCP XML" Clipfinder shows each distinct clip (i.e. 30 clips).
If you use "Import Subclips from FCP XML" with "merge overlapping sections" disabled you will see 68 clips. Sort on the Name column to see the multiple uses for each clip.
So far, so good.
That does not explain what happens in Color.
How exactly did you import the sequence into Color ?
Have you tried using ColorFixer on the Color project ?
Cheers,
Hans

I got the same results as you when I did the Import Clips and Import Subclips functions.
Got the file.

I did import the sequence into Color, and that's where I saw the red Xs.
ColorFixer said it changed 30 of 68 files, and once I reopen the file in Color I get the same problem. I will try installing FCS updates. Maybe that will help. Maybe something is going wrong when I export the XML in FCP.

Are you on FCS2 or 3 ?
If you're on FCS2, is it possible you have performed the last software update for FCP and not used Color since ?
If so, some people have found they needed to re-install the RED FCP support package in order to get Color to work (again) properly.
When you say you imported the sequence into Color, do you mean you imported the XML directly into Color, or did you import the XML into FCP and then use "send to Color". If you did the former, try the latter.
Let me know how it is going.

Hans

I imported the XML directly into Color when I got that problem. I tried importing the Clipfinder-generated XML once, but I kept getting an "out of memory" error when I tried to open it. But I created a new project with no previous assets and tried it again and sent that to Color, it worked properly, and I can now adjust the parameters in the Red tab. Thanks so much, Hans!

Ah, another new issue,
some of the clips are just still, no movement.
in both the timeline and render.

Looks like the infamous Color Looping Bug.
Get ColorFixer from my website and run it on your Color project.

If you are using clipfinder and R3D files I STRONGLY SUGGEST you follow this method for problem free conforms.

hi,
i have exported an XML from FCP where I edited with ProRes HQ QT's. Imports fine into ClipFinder, but the RED source clips exist on more than one drive, but clipfinder only allows selection of one directory yet the sequence sources clips from several drives. is there a workaround?

Clipfinder 2.2 allows you to specify multiple clip directories, i.e. drives.

Hans,
I'm working on conforming from transcoded QT timeline on FCP, but as the result, I get every cuts shifted one frame behind. One thing I suspect is I got the project from older version of FCP. Any clue?

Hans got back to me and told me this is probably because when a project comes from older FCP (in this case was FCP6) then open it with FCP7, then moreover, there were none R3D files included in the timeline. So one of the other. So, by removing the none R3D files and save XML then conform with Clipfinder worked fine. Thanks Hans.

I have a problem with clipfinder 2.5...
When I render from redcine-x and reconform xml to final cut and i have 1 clip but 3 cuts...the xml on final cut doesn't work because it doesn't find the 3 cuts (..., 000 and 001)...final cut looks for original name....
any idea about that?
