I think I'm going to be patient on this one. Just did fresh installs of my systems a couple of weeks ago, and not really in a rush to do do it again next week. I think I'll sit back, watch the feedback from braver souls than I, and when it seems like everything is nice and stable I'll give it a shot.

As soon as I have time, I'll back up the nehalem mac pro and do a fresh install of SL. Probably next week as I'm real busy this weekend.

I'm skeptical about the gamma being 100% "fixed". I think it will be way better with the default now at 2.2. As long as you don't need to stray from 2.2, everything should work swimmingly.

Yeap, already ordered well (pre-ordered) will arrive on the 28th, so they say.

ciao

For those upgrading to Snow Leopard, I strongly recommend a fresh install and not just an upgrade.

There is also a report now that the RED FCS3 installer doesn't work on Snow Leopard beta.

There is...

And there there was a thread where someone quite familiar around here stated that the gamma-shift issue actually was fixed, but out of memory I cannot say if that was with dpx's or raw files.

But I have to agree with Jeff:
This is fresh install time - all over the board.

For $30.00 might as well have it but I think I'll wait and see the results trickle out as well. Ordered.

I'll wait for the .0.1 update ( at least on the production machine)

I'll be a guinea pig... moving the Nehalem over and then the 17".. can't wait for the FCS3 update.

Dam I'm so ready to update. SL sitting right here in front of me. Very tempting. But every new OS bites me in the ass with problems. I've got a Sonnet raid card and AJA hardware so I might, just might and wait to see what others think.

I took the plunge last night, here are some notes:

Incompatibilities:
-AJA-IOHD not currently supported (!) - This will be a big issue for many folks, especially my pals at Bling Digital
-Little Snitch needs to be the most current
-ClamAV need to install the V2 beta
-Parallels 3 and lower no longer supported, need most current version of 4
-Transmission needs the current update
-more incompatibilities here: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/ (terribly formatted page - good luck)

Weirdness:
-If you have upgraded your hard drive using most of the methods outlined online (clone with SuperDuper, etc) it is probably in the wrong format to install Snow Leopard. It needs to be a GUID partition. SL installer helpfully offers to reformat your drive, which of course wipes all of your data. BE careful - there is only ONE warning about this!

I ended up buying a new 500G laptop drive, replacing my Macbook drive and installing SL onto the bare drive (yes, the upgrade disc allows this). I then hooked my original drive up thru FW800 and used Migration Assistant to put everything back. The benefit to this method is your original HD remains as a perfect backup of your pre-upgraded system.

Migration Assistant surprisingly seems to have copied all my apps, files, settings, and docs flawlessly. It feels just like my previous environment but much snappier. Unfortunately I can't tell how much of the speed comes from: a clean OS install, a completely unfragmented drive, a 7200RPM drive with 16MB cache (coming from 5400 with 8MB), or Snow Leopard's changes.

I'm not sure I would put this on a production machine given the list of incompatible software, but for my personal box it's working great.

Snow Leopard also kills many Expresscard Esata adaptors! It is my understanding that anything using the SIL 3132 chipset will not be supported on SL (Griffen, Bytecc, etc.).

I had intended to restore my system using my Esata dock, so it was a bit of a surprise when Snow Leopard said it didn't like my Esata adaptor!

Still waiting on the disk. Will install as soon I get it. Better to get it done, and know about the issues right away, rather then later.

Installed it, so far so good...
