I've searched the archives and FAQs ect but can't find definitive info if the RED Camera can replay a clip residing in flash or RED drive.

So sorry for the basic question, can RED replay from the camera and if so is the picture output via HDSDI?

“Yes to an available HD output in both recording modes and playback.

The camera can perform real time RAW to RGB processing, White Balance, Gamma and scaling to create a 720p “HD Preview “ of the RAW signal being recorded to (played back from) the Digital Magazine.

REDCINE can give you a similar capability with pre-recorded footage, except that the “preview” is on your computer monitor.”

“Yes, 1080p is the highest video resolution available from the camera during playback and this is provided from one or both of the "dual link" HD-SDI's.”

“The camera already supports instant slow motion playback following off-speed capture. No NEED for an external device just to do that function.”

“Remote control of camera clip playback could be made available via RS232 hard wire or 802.11 wireless, framing guidelines for HD resolution images we can resolve. If you want SD resolution images, there are external converters for that.”

Mike

What would be great if they did a player as well....

This could be half the camera without the imager.. It would allow 1) onset preview without tyeing up the body 2) RT HD layoffs for ofline and fast turn around jobs... If they put RS422 (with TC) control in then they would allow the traditionalist to slip the red advantage into their (our) tried and tested workflow... I reckon they'd sell allot too....

Thanks agina Gibby for being such a valuable resource. These workflows are not easily or readily available as one might think.

Glad to help...

For RED's entire development cycle I've kept a running archive of RED Team statements on the various subjects concerning the camera, lenses, and accessories. It takes a little while each day, but I like getting to answers quickly, so the time I spend on the front end saves me time finding the answers I'm after. When I do a paste-up like that post, I'm not using the search function on boards, but rather just getting into my word processing software, finding the folder on the subject, speed reading the contents to find the appropriate comments, and pasting them up. It's much faster and more direct than using the search function on the boards. I keep my RED folders for my own use, but I regularly share the contents on RED User because I know it will help others get the answers they're after.

I don't just keep folders on RED, but rather on all facets of motion media technology. Besides providing me answers for my own work, it really helps me when I research and write magazine articles.

I am a speed-reader though, and in college (and since) I discovered that I'm a fast researcher. I don't have all the answers (nobody does!), but I usually know where to quickly get the answers I don't have, and how to "connect the dots" between them, so to speak.

I pitch in and help here because others have helped me a lot throughout my career...full-circle Karma.

It's always great karma to share. I learned that about the thousands of posts I have into various forums over the past few years. Sharing and reading is good karma.

And I usually copy/paste your posts (not just about Red) to a text file, along with other bits from various sources for my own archive. But my archive is completely unorganized with random subjects from all over the internet in various untitled files.

Thanks Gibby,
I though I had read and been told that it could replay, but since "replay" isnt in the RED dictionary I came up with zilch in the search.
A search for the more elegant term "Playback" would have found numerous relevant postings!

Is the monitoring output from the camera solely HD-SDI, or will anything else be offered? Specifically - component BNC RGB/YUV?

Just wondering if any of my four year old (now vintage) gear can work, or if I should toss that on eBay.

I found the answer here. The search engine actually worked.

HD-SDI and HDMI @ 720p.
