Anyone know if the Red camera is using SAE or metric pitch for its hardware?

I assume you are asking about the various mounting points on the camera. I would be very surprised if it were not SAE, most likely a mix of 1/4-20 & 3/8-16.

Well it would have to be 3/8" x 16 t.p.i. for the tripod mounting thread, (not much choice on that one) but yeah I was wondering about all those mounting points on the camera and various cage assemblies.

I remember 1/4-20 being mentioned quite often...

Thanks guys,
1/4-20 is a nice strong screw size for hanging stuff off the camera. As long as the hole depth is at least four threads.

Are the threads machined directly into the aluminium, or are they using helicoils/Thread inserts?

No idea Anders but I remember way back when, possibly on dvxuser.com, we talked about threading them. It was an issue very early on so if it hasn't been considered then it'd be quite a big oversight.
