So Jim, do you have big, surprising announcements or is the big news to the industry that you did ship? Either way I'll be there at your booth on that Monday!

Newer news would be news to us.:p Could one of the tricks up your collective sleeve be RED Primes? Oh well, half the fun is the speculation and anticipation. I am just glad to hear from you guys from time to time while you are in the deep guts of the development. I really do not see how you guys do it, but I am glad you do.

Andrew, I'd say this statement unveils a lot...Jim's confidence!!! Tonight I'll sleep very very well, Mr. James Jannard. Thanks!

He he heh, as you know Emanuel, my immediate future is in the hands of the RED Team (but aren't we all!). I am realistically confident in their endeavors and working hard to raise my game on all fronts in the mean time.

All my money will be addressed to RED and to accessorize it! I left other routes away. And with me, there are still more three professionals since last April 25th. Giving all our hopes in this bet -- my fault, I should confess. And my belief beyond my faith too. Ours.

Just curious, which hotel are you booking? As I also wants to book one, but not sure which one.

Thanks,

I think most on this forum are atuned to what is up...
I still mention RED to my buddies and they are shocked...
Especially the ones that have HDCAM's.....

For those that do not like casinos and prefer a more sedate NAB...

My personal favorite is the Alexis Park. www.alexispark.com. No casino suite hotel. But... it's right across from the Hard Rock. So, you can enjoy a quiet evening at the circular bar at The Hard Rock, then heel-toe it back to the hotel.

But - it's a different perspective on the show when you're working it. Demo and meeting-duty working a show-floor booth at NAB is brutal. Nothing quite as challenging as meetings with sober executives at 9AM on the show floor after an ugly night.

This is why ASSIMILATE has suites in the Renaissance for demos... bloody marys and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

Anyone know anything about this "Exploring Field Production with Red Digital Cinema" workshop at NAB Post-production conference?

I'll come from Spain to NAB to see our little girl for real... I've got a couple of questions because I never been there:
Is it enough 2 days to visit NAB?
There will be any other RED presentation/meeting/party after the 1st day?

Thanks a lot!
Ciao Carlo

Carlo,

I've traveled from New Zealand twice for the show. If you can only manage 2 days make it the Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the US visitors hit the show on Monday and Tuesday making for a very crowded event. On Wednesday and especially Thursday the crowds have thinned. On Thursday the booth operators are in better humor too as the end is in sight and are more willing to give a bit more of their time for questions. If you're lucky you can sometimes pickup an item at a Ex Show or demo price.

Don't under estimate the time it takes to get to and from the show.

In your case, why not wait for IBC?

If you come all the way from Spain I would go to the entire event. Allows you to adjust and spread the stuff out over multiple days. It's a bit bigger than IBC.

There's enough to do and see in Vegas besides NAB if you want to get away from the show floor!

p.s. flying from Europe to California / Nevada or reverse tends to keep you up for 24 hours, I'm glad if I can stay for a week or two before doing it again :)

We booked at the Best Western Mardi Gras, just about a 3 minute walk to the Convention Center. Never have stayed there before though, so... :) Nice not to have to worry about a car and parking though!

I also booked at the Best Western Mardi Gras where I have stayed 2 times before for NAB. It is a "budget" hotel so keep your expectations low. Its got beds, showers and not much else. The location is great, especially if you don't want to rent a car or wait in long taxi lines. The price is nice, more money for lenses!

Renaissance.. I love that hotel. I have stayed there a couple of times. Very nice. Would love to come an see the demo's. especialy on Scratch... I am lucky I got a condo down here so that nice. Only bad party is having to drive to the convention center but if you know what way to go its not to bad.

Thanks a lot Rob&Rocketeer!
I just bought my plane tickets to stay there untill Thrusday night and then a looong week-end with my girl in NYC!
I make kind of extensive search for the hotel an finally I reserved The Stratosphere, the only one next to the NAB that I can find for something less than a 100$/night. I don't consider it a cheap hotel but Mardi Grass fares are now around 125$/night.

Ciao

Mardi Grass is pretty good. Easy to walk to the convention center (and thus pretty close to the strip). Convention center also has a monorail stop.

Another thing I'd like to encourage everyone to do is go up on the Stratosphere tower (last stop [Sahara hotel] on the monorail) IN THE EVENING when it's dark. It's an incredible view seeing all the lights of the city. When you reach the top level with the elevator make sure you take the stares further up so you can stand outside!!

Finally, do the space shot attraction on top of the tower. It would shoot you another 30 ft (10 m) or something in the air. You feel weightless for a bit and get a complete silent look over the city. It's just awesome, I did that ride four times in a row. Don't bother with the "roller coaster".

You don't have to be afraid of heights in the space shot since you cannot look down or over an edge. You just look into the distance and be mesmerized by all the lights.

Highly recommended!

The links I put on my opening post for this thread will help you with an NAB hotel decision:

I had a dream last night: It was at NAB, JJ holded up a big number with the 222: my RED. I floated over to him with tears in my eyes, picking up my new RED and went out to the thousands of lights on the Vegasstrip, shooting my first images to compare them with the ones I shot on 35mm ears ago. :):):):)

Completely silent? Man, I was screaming/swearing my guts out! :D

Add to the Don't Bother List: The roller coaster at the New York New York. Avoid it unless you have an in-law who's a chiropractor.

Screaming? Everybody screams going up and down. But at the top it felt like a minute of dead silence with just me floating above the lights!

I liked the Coaster at Sahara, but it's wickedly expensive. Guess I'll just have to sneak in two days of Knott's & Six Flags?
