The Stereo3D Toolbox plugin has been officially released. http://www.stereo3dtoolbox.com

You can use it for free in demo mode with a watermark or a license can be purchased from Noise Industries to remove the watermark.

I've posted a bunch of tutorials on the website to explain how some of the features work. More are on their way.

I'm currently working on adding even more features for a v1.1 release so please post your wishlists here.

NOTE: There is a conflict with Snow Leopard and After Effects' implementation of FxFactory plugins. As far as I can tell the plugin works fine in Snow Leopard with FCP7 and Motion 4 but it hasn't been thoroughly tested yet.

I'll find out about coupons from the Noise Industries guys. I don't handle any of the sales or licensing stuff.

OK so now if you use the coupon code "REDUSER" you should get a 10% discount from Noise Industries for Stereo3D Toolbox.
Thanks to Niclas from NI for setting this up for us.

Playing with it today, great toolset. Nice job. I put in a request for purchase today here at work....waiting to hearback....

Thank you!

We use our quantel for alot of our 3d work, but for smaller projects, tests or for when it's booked we do already do some work in FCP and this I think can simply alot of what we do.

that said, I have a request/question,

It adds alot of work to have to "sync"each clip first, make sub-clips etc....especially if you have lots and lots of clips....

Would it be possible to once you have both eyes side by side have a control in the filter that allows you to "slide" one clip allowing you to sync one frame to the frame that's being displayed in the other eye???

then you could skip that whole first step, just load each eye and slide the "sync" slider back and forth until one of your clips is at the same frame as the other...bam.

This would be especially helpfull for clips that have no slate or defined sync point and you have to hunt for someone's eyelids or something....

is this possible?

Tim:

Thanks for that. I will be purchasing in the next few weeks after I get my FCP and snow leopard installed and updated.

This would be great. My (and I think a lot of people's) need is to get a fairly straightforward, simple way to get some 3d footage up and running. I do underwater and nature stuff and we don't necessarily need a lot of sophistication (yet) - just a way to get it done efficiently.

Time is something very difficult to deal with in a FxPlug plugin filter, but I am actively looking at other solutions.

At the moment the Cineform Neo3D solution works well for pairing your clips but it is a one-clip-at-a-time process right now as well and it takes time to copy to the new quicktime clips, not to mention that you also have to convert your footage into the Cineform codec.

What is interesting is that FCP and Motion access clips dropped in the image wells differently. For example, in FCP if I were to put the right clip on V1 and the left clip on V2 and then make sure they were lined up I still wouldn't be able to apply Stereo3D Toolbox to V2 and then drag V1 into the image well because the plugin would simply start taking frames from the first frame of the source clip, regardless of the inpoint of that clip in the sequence.

However if we send that same sequence to Motion, apply the Stereo3D Toolbox to the left clip and then simply drag the right clip into the image well the plugin will read it from the start of the edited clip.

The "Getting Started" workflow tutorial I've already posted on the website shows how to get organized by subclipping to the clapper, but that isn't really necessary if you edit a sequence using two layers and then send it to Motion.

A few words of warning for Snow Leopard 10.6.0 users:
There is currently a known conflict with After Effects CS3/CS4, Snow Leopard, and 3rd party plugins. According to a post on Adobe's blog they are working on a solution but until then the official recommendation from Noise Industries is not to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

Motion 4 also apparently has a possible issue with 10.6 with a lock up. This will be fixed in 10.6.1 according to MacRumors.

I also just heard of an issue with a user who upgraded and checkerboard playback of his Quicktimes in Quicktime X have been affected. I'm still looking into this.

Indeed it seems Snow Leopard has currentley problems with most of the professional software. Its better to wait...
