I think it would be great if a half capacity battery was offered by Red that would charge on the same charger and neatly fit behind the top handle for hand held work. What do you guys think? I would be willing to trade battery life for size and weight. I plan on mostly using compact flash and don't like the idea of the drive/battery mount hanging off the back of the camera.

We don't know how long the standard battery will last, as of yet. My guess is that the RED is pretty power hungry. I few of us talked about battery belts as an option in this thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3466
I think a nice belt solves many issues.
Anyone have an idea how the RED was powered for the "Crossing the Line" shoot, or now with the SS shoots? I could not tell from any of the photo's released for CTL.

A battery belt would be fine for some stuff but I would be worried about snags on the cable. And I would like to be able to set down the camera with out having to power down and unhook the cable. Also for traveling or just vacation shooting some smaller batteries and a mini-charger would be handy. As is the dual charger is huge.
It seems like you could get Ok life out of a half size battery if you were only shooting to CF and only using one monitoring solution.

There is defiantly the potential for the camera to be a power hungry beast. Large sensor, a lot of data bandwidth, in camera; processor intensive; encoding, add to that an evf or lcd (a large high definition LCD) and a recording medium and it could stack up watts fast. Personally I can't wait for the testing to see how long those batteries last.

Of course it's going to use a bunch of watts. The smallest pelliter (sp?) I've seen advertised draws 2.5 amps at 12 volts alone. Mayby there are newer more efficent models out there though.
Not being rude Chris. lol You hit it on the nose.
