I voted yes, but I think the sub-forum should be dedicated to still lens adpators in general. Although in fact I believe Red should adopt the Birger mounts and lose their own. Only if the Birger Nikon mount accepts all Nikon lenses (well at least starting with AI) !
Cheers,

What about a sub-forum dedicated to all third-party accesories (Birger, Viewfactor, RedRock, etc).

I'm looking hard at buying the Birger mount, but see no need for sub-forum.

Adaml, I second that. Then that Forum can be divided into different topics like "Birger-Nikon," "Birger-Eos," "RedRock FF for RED," "VFS for RED," etc

So there is a single location to go to for information, I think it might be a good idea to make the following thread sticky:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3101
I don't think a separate forum makes sense. Lens mount and follow focus discussions should probably stay with lens discussions.

I disagree, Mr. Birger. Your thread seems chaotic. A sub forum would organize it.

There are only a few of us that seem to post in the Lens forum anyway. A lot of that is about the lens mounts. I don't see a need to make a second forum that gets little posting in it. So I don't think it's worthwhile or likely that Jarred will include it.
I didn't vote because there wasn't a No option, just yes and maybe.
Erik, I'd create a new thread once you have all the info available with a tonne of pics and order information and ask for that to be made a sticky. It'd be more useful than the current one which is already slightly dated since you've made some amendments I believe.

Guys,
I'm going to stir the waters a bit here so apologies in advance but...
I find it hard to fathom that we are on the brink, for the first time, of being provided with 'affordable' exeptionally high quality, usually disclaimers apply, digital acquisition and you are putting so much store by lenses not specifically designed to make the most of that image capture ability.
There, I've got it off my chest. I know 'horses for courses' and all that, but still, (no pun intended).
I suppose what I would have said if I was feeling more moderate is, not another new forum please.

Well, I'm voting yes but that is because I have become keen to follow the progress of this particular product.
Objectively, I think it would be more worthwhile having a sub-forum - as some have already suggested here - for all third party accessories. This would be a great playground for gadget news that could directly be applied to Red, that may or may not be lens related.
That said, the Birger stuff probably still belongs in the Lens forum, simply because the majority of that forum already discusses third party lenses etc. I would still welcome a 'third party gadget' forum to catch the stuff that might otherwise end up in the Off Topic forum.

Well, then there is also the potential $10k difference between two Red lenses and a couple of Nikkon/Canon lenses and the Birger. Revolutions have to start from the grassroots.

I'd vote no. Not because I'd care where it's threads are stored, but at some point you gotta put a limit on it.
Actually, I was thinking about asking Jarred for a forum that only has threads that I post in. heh heh. Chris' Forum. I would then assign Chuck Colburn to moderate it. And all of them would be stickies.
I rule.

Let's do 3rd Party Accessories that work. RED always said they are up for 3rd parties for Matt boxes etcs... lets at least ID all of them, let the vendors pitch to us if they want to... most are here to add products, not to compete with RED - there is plenty of work to go around.

Actually, I might vote for that one, Greg. (As long as I get my own forum. We can call it 3rd Party Accessories That Don't Actually Work.)

This sub forum is necessary, not a 'fait divers'.

i agree with greg...a sub-forum for 3rd-party accessories is becoming necessary. it is hard to sift through the reduser forum to find these solutions.
i don't think there's enough information to make it specific to birger, but finding 3rd-party accessories in a single sub-forum would be great.

Is the existing accessories forum not good enough?
All the Birger mount stuff is here in the Lens Test forum because that's just where it started. Perhaps what we need in regards to this forum is a name change to "Lenses and Lens Mounts" and then a sub-forum for the lens tests?

what i'd really like to see is a set 3rd-party stickies that can direct us to all the 3rd party mfg. websites, so ET has a sticky, and SIM, Zacuto, Birger, etc, and that just lets us know they're out there and maybe a brief outline of their major RED products...discussion and oo-ah-ing on the products can then ensue below...
i don't really care if this happens on the existing accessories forum or a new 3rd-party forum, but what happens is, i see something that looks interesting from a 3rd party, but if i want to refer back to it later, it's a PITA to dig it back out, assuming i can even remember whose it was....a set of stickies from each manufacturer with a web link would make this much easier....lock em and only unlock em to let the co. modify them, as new stuff is released...

I have changed my opinion. I think the single thread has gotten a little unwieldy, and a sub forum would be a much better idea.
This site is probably the best place to handle questions and announcements related to use of our product for cinema. Going forward I would really rather not create a new forum just so the information can be more organized and easier to parse.
The qualities that make a lens good for use on our mount, and for use use with a traditional FF setup are quite different... so the same lens may not be apropriate for both modes of use. And, it doesn't make sense to break the forum out by Canon, Nikon and FourThirds, as each of our mounts will have similar issues, and learning for one can likely be applied to one of the others.

Just like a Birgers...starting with a lens mount(s), FF, software, user experience, mechanical issues and all other sub-treads needed for that...

What would be really cool would be a place where you can go to see detailed information about products from 3rd parties and RED as well. You could have video tutorials (which I think are really essential for every product out there, as it's the easiest and sometimes quickest way for people to see what a product can do and how to use it). You could also have user manuals, white papers, and a user review section. Basically, a comprehensive place to go when you are considering a product for your RED.
The forum is great, but I think the very nature of how it works, things can get buried at times. and you can't make everything a sticky.

Someone just needs to do a faq for the birger mount like some of the other accessories have. Someone who has great knowledge on following developments and who has a personal relationship with Birger. What lenses can we use? What lenses both zooms and primes that are in sweet spots? etc etc...This will cure all ills. Unfortunately no matter what happens, people will fill these boards full of angst. Most of us just want digestible information not personal opinions. We'll leave the results to speak for themselves. Can anyone help us out here?
