Hi Jim,

When I buy a car, I can choose from different engine options. Is this possible with the RED? If you can't have both 720/120 and 2k/96, can you make it so that people can order which one they like? Is it as simple as changing the firmware or dropping a different chip in? Red users have different uses for the camera and it would be nearly impossible to serve everyone's needs. I myself prefer 2k/96.

Is Photosonic speed in the foreseeable future? Around 500fps at 2k or 4k? I'm a commercial director and we often use a Photosonic camera for gorgeous food shots and water shots.

Thanks.

yes jim or graeme what is the most frames per second this camera or the next will be capable of shooting at.

and anyone else please chime in on what it takes to shoot high fps to hard drive, as it seems such a thing would just eat up film, like 2000 fps.

There are special cameras for doing high speed like that. Red isn't aimed at that special, small, and select market.

it's a small market just because the price.
a weisscam/phantom is around 3000 euros/day... so, maybe if someone makes a affordable high speed camera, capable of 1000fps, the market will grow a lot.
Don't forget that a High Speed camera is not only for filmmaking but also, its more important area is in industrial aplications.
