I just finished a commercial shoot and have the footage backed up via checksum software. I have an important file that will not open in Red Alert or Redcine. The file structure looks intact. There is footage in the proxies with the exception of a green frame at the beginning of the file. I can't open the R3D with AE either. How do I recover this footage for my editor? I tried opening the file with other files in Redcine hoping I could recover the file. In the meantime I exported a quicktime via the proxy so my editor can see the footage, but we used a black and white look and have no way of changing the metadata to recover the color information.

Never happened before... I'm stumped.

Upgraded Red One. 20.1.3.

On a side note: First official shoot with RPPs and build 20 under tungsten...WOW!!! I'm in love again. I will start a new thread soon to praise with pictures.

THANKS!!!

Just a shout out and THANK YOU to the crew at RED who worked late into the night to help me resolve this issue. Great customer support. It gives me great confidence to know they have my back when I need it.

Deanan, Rob, Dan, Nate, Sean (and all others) - Thank you!

I have had the very same problem, but with around 15 of the files. Red rush wont let me convert them to proxies, when I try it takes about ten minutes until it freezes, or nothing happens... and when i try to watch the original proxies green will appear,or it will play a couple seconds of the clip, staggering things. Is there anything I can do to save this footage? It has several takes that we need to use.

Backup the drive again, then run Redundead on the original media.

Ignoring Proxies for a second, can you view and transcode the clips in Red Alert?

I just tried red alert. When I imported the file, it took a minute to import. Usually it does this almost instantly. It would let me skim through the footage on the timeline, but it was super jumpy, unlike how it would be normally.

When I went to render... It took about 1.5 hours to export a 1 minute clip. This would usually take 20 seconds on my computer. Once I went to play what it exported, it played the first 4 seconds, then it kept on repeating the last two frames it played.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I rented the camera for a commercial shoot I was on, and after the shoot I gave the red drives back to the rental place, they checked it out right away to a feature, so it's impossible to get the original files off of that hard drive. Im running desperate here, spent most of the day trying to figure out a solution.

I would try copying the files to a different drive for a safety.

One thing that was suggested to me was to try and open the files in REDCINE a few at a time with a good file being loaded first. I think the idea was to try and make sure the first file was not corrupted. If you were able to open them in the program you could export a file to use in the standard way. I had no luck with this but you never know.

One more thing...

Just to state it again the RED crew were great to help me through the problem. I would suggest getting in touch with them and see what they can do for you.
