Since this topic comes up frequently, here's a little report on some camera stabilizers, including the alien revolution:

Someone pointed these out on another board I post on. Could be interesting? Not sure of noise levels though. Anyone here tried these?
Cheers,
Mark.

They produced the gyros which Garrett Brown used on the forest scenes on Endor in the Star Wars movie. He added them to his Steadicam for increased stability.
Jost Vacano used them on "Das Boot" since Steadicam was not quite introduced in Germany at that time, plus his "jostcam" was much smaller than a normal steadicam. So I think these gyros can be quite useful in certain situations.
But they need a big invertor plus battery, so it's virtually impossible to go unthethered.

It can form part of a small package.
I have one of these, the invertor is about 3 x 2 x 2inches I use a 12volt camera battery to power it.
Also it takes a few minutes to get up to speed and a few minutes to slow down so it is possible to fire it up then unplug if the extra weight or size of the camera battery is an issue.
A tap from camera 12volt battery will keep it topped up once it is up to speed.

Hi Andrew, Bitteschön! (are you german?)
OT---Ahhh no, I am about four generations removed from Germany. Though, I spent about two months living and working in Frankfurt (some Wiesbaden visits mixed in as well--WOW)--Beautiful architecture, people and culture-- I had some of the best times in my life during that time! I really miss Germany. My old roomate lived in Berlin for two years and I loved hearing those stories...
Kalone, you live in one of the most architecturally distinct and awe inspiring city in the world. I hope I get to meet you when I head there in a year or so. I am planning on a trip to France/Portugal next year so maybe a train ride excursion into Germany would be in order. I have one unique doco. project that I am now putting together that may just provide that opportunity! Like to buy you a nice beer (or three.. :) ) when I get there. Keep in touch.

Once up to speed how much time do they spin before needing a jolt?

Sorry for the OT everyone but...
Great news then Kalone! I will be there my friend.
The theme is a hard one to discuss without giving it away... but there will be many that will slap their foreheads in reaction--"What? Why didn't I think of that!" The subject includes a broad range of topics-- design, obsession, materialism, generational gaps, consumer obsession... it is something that almost everyone has held in one hand and derived many years of pleasure from... Is my answer convoluted enough for you! :) haha... I promise that you will dig it and it may even transport you to another time... I have said enough:shiftyph34r:
Bis später dann!

Sounds like a very interesting mix, it's surely a research intense project, right?
All the best! Waiting for more when you're ready.

Hey Priyesh!
Thank you for all the kind words, it certainly is an interesting mix of things and it is quite alot research. Although I will be dealing with an American Icon, I still have know idea were this path will take me, but it will not be boring :) .
I have said this many times that this community will be seen as being as important as this camera system as our collective paths will take us past one anothers door step, so to speak. These are the trips that I relish the most... So sieht man sich wieder!
