hi all..

I had an experience shooting timelapses usin DSLRs in sunny days with tempreture degrees over 38 maybe to 42..
its a very hard situation .. you have to keep the camera running for several hours under this hot conditions..
i used lots of methods to deal with all that heat.. like white cloth.. keeping shadow over the camera.. etc..
at last I found the last answer where it was the worst situation ever.. shooting with no available shadow on the camera for 15 continous hours.. that was hard to deal with.. I tried whire cloth but the camera was heating up till it loses comunication with the lens and gives an error message.. it was a canon 450D (XSi).. later I found a silver piece of poly cloth.. I used to cover the camera.. then what.. the camera was running cooler than it normal conditions.. the difference amazed me..

this story was to introduce an idea for RED ONE that suffers shooting in hot conditions.. why not to change the body color to something super reflective like Chrome.. I know black is sexy.. but for such conditions Chrome is the sexiest..
i don't know.. people might say why don't you use a similar cloth and put on the camera (RED ONE).. well it would add to the chrome color so less and less heat..
maybe a chrome color would be a nice idea when introducing the DSMCs.. maybe can have both color options..

I think it is a dark color for a few reasons. The biggest being that a super reflective camera could randomly reflect light around the set, into actors eyes not to mention the crew, especially the AC and DP having to look into a bright reflective camera all the time. It might work for your applications, but think it would be a tough sell on set. My take anyway.

I agree, although the reflective foil would reflect heat it would make the camera a reflective nightmare. It would also more than likely make the body (at least over here) hot enough to fry an egg, and a few ac fingers!
