...quick rambling thoughts I was having today....
I was thinking, the worst part about working on cool projects....
Is not being able to talk about them!
But.....I just wanted to say I've been very busy lately, shooting lots of 3D (RED and others), DIT'ing, managing lots of data....sweating a bit operating 3D steadicam rigs here and there....and even my first project as a full-on stereographer. I think I can breakdown/setup various 3D rigs blindfolded by now, I've done it so much in the past 2 months.... I say this as I sit in the middle of a sea of equipment as we prep for a exciting big project. After I get back it's right back into planning mode as I'm booked on 2 more 3D projects.
Learning alot....for sure... ... and most of all enjoying every min. of it. Personally, couldn't ask for anything more really. Been hard work for sure, but very rewarding.
Been collecting some behind the scenes pictures etc...you can be sure once I get the appropriate clearance from the "suits" etc... I will post here for all to see and discuss. I've also conducted a few tests and film out's that have been very interesting. If I'm allowed I will also share findings etc...
Most important of all my recent interactions around town is that there is currently alot of stereo 3D being shot now. On a multitude of camera and rigs. I've chatted with alot of misc. crew members saying they have just come back from working other 3D gigs as well, from grips to ac's.
This is vital news to moving stereo 3D forward and establishing a foot hold and creating enough content to drive the advancement of display technologies and getting more 3D screens in theaters. 3D's biggest problem so far has been.....the chicken and the egg problem.....why build technology when there is no content...or why create content if there is limited distribution channels/tech? Well hopefully we are well on our way as an industry to creating enough content to fill say.....a 3D cable network? Which hopefully can drive 3D consumer TV prices lower or enable more choices. Having content will drive many technologies and hopefully finally establish stereo3D as just another tool in the tool belt of film makers and content creators.
It's always great to see stereo3D in the news and trade magazines everyday now I see something about 3D. It just keeps pop'ing up. From popular science, stuff magazine etc...to Variety. Hell our local Burbank Fry's electronics had a 3D demo the other day(nvida&DLP tv's).
Lets see how the next 3D movies will do in the box office, but something tells me that stereo3D might just be about to make the transition from fad/sideshow to mianstream.
Personally I can't wait for TRON, not sure what to make of Avatar yet.... but I spoke to a few that saw the trailer in 3D and they were very impressed.
I just hope I get to somehow be in the middle of all of it. Exciting times....
...end of ramble.....I should really get to sleep...a long string of 16+ hour days is sure to start tomorrow....
