View Full Version : IBC Summary and detailed photos?

Was I completely mistaken in thinking that the RED team would be posting photos and details from IBC? Unless I dreamt it, either Jim or Jarred mentioned that they'd be posting something of the sort on Sunday once they returned. I would love to hear the juicy details... in the days leading up to IBC it sounded like there would be some big reveals, but the reports are few and far between.
Where are we at with Epic and the modules?

This looks great! Like Steve, it makes me wanna go shoot something now, which I guess is the whole point. Right on.
Hey Jim, Jarred, etc: I know you all are probably beat after a quick globe trot, but if you have the time in the next few days, I think those of us who didn't make it to IBC would really appreciate a couple detailed shots of the prototypes you all presented. I saw the ones floating around here, but a few more would be wonderful...if ya feel like it of course :tongue_smilie: Thanks!
Peace,
-Harry
Hey Harry.. I will put that at the top of my todo list tomorrow.
That's the latest, Ian.
Peace,

Oh, perfect- thanks Harry. Sorry I missed that post, wouldn't have started a new thread if I'd come across it. When was that?

Thanks for gathering all of that into one place; very helpful.
I wish people would upload higher-res pictures!

I'm curious; what's the module directly behind the camera in photos 1, 4, and 5? Looks like a spacer... did they say what the purpose was?
REALLY digging the 2-sided CF module.

Hi
I think it shows two CF modules … like on Panasonic cameras it shell be possible to hot swap CF carts that way

it will be possible to hotswap cf cards like p2, but the cf module i saw at IBC had two inputs - one on each side.
but i can't remember what the second module was ...

Haakon... that is the adaptor plate needed from a brain to the back modules. It is necessary to add the latch system as well as convert oversize or undersize brains to the standard modular back size.

Jim. Could you tell us what connectors are on the actual brain? See a bunch of them but none are labeled. And are the same connectors on scarlet?

Jim, so does that mean the adapter is a separate purchase?

Complete info will be available in plenty of time before you can make a purchase decision. Since "everything changes", it seems counter-productive to give any more details before we are done.

Ah yes, I forgot about the difference in size between Epic and Scarlet. I remember seeing that at NAB and asking about it then, I had just forgotten. :)
It does seem strange that if you need that part to add the latch system... well, what is it latched to? lol
But you guys know what you are doing... can't wait to see how it all ends up.

Thanks Jim.
Perhaps I misunderstood previously, or things have changed, but I had always thought that the width of the EPIC and the modules were the same, and only the thinner Scarlet would need a "step down" adapter.
So all brains need a "module plate" of some sort? I assume there wasn't room within the Brain for the latch mechanism, and therefore the "module plate" screws in to the back somehow, and then is the first link on the latching system for the rest of the modules?
Thanks as always.

hey in the pics the 2 redmotes shown are different. one has 3 buttons underneath the screen the other only has 2

My guess is that the two different RedMotes are for "confusionary" purposes. I mean, so that the competition doesn't exactly know what they're really doing.
Since for all I know the final one will be only one.

My best guess would be that the matte black and silver Redmote is the one in the Epic-X bundle, while the other(the rec button is red and one less button under the screen) is the one you can buy as a single module.
By the way - nice name Johan, I've never met anybody with a name so similar to mine :D

Now that the size and shape of the body have (probably) been determined what are the approx physical dimensions of the EPIC brain?
