What ever happened to 4k REDCode RAW at 1-30 fps on camera? Until last week it was a part of the tentative specs but then it just dissapeared to be replaced by 1-24fps RAW with all the highspeed options.

Did it get axed?

It's still "under development" or not ready just yet. The intention is still to deliver up to 30fps @ 4K onboard.

I think Jim was just talking about to Compact Flash. I think to Red Drive or Red Ram your still in the clear at 30 fps.

Don't quote me.

edit: just hold that thought entirely.

Hi, IBloom,

I believe Gavin was talking about Jim's latest post which no longer includes 30p in the spec:

Here is the list for today:

4K REDCODE RAW @ 1-60 fps to RAW Port
4K REDCODE RAW @ 1-24 fps to Compact Flash or RED Drive

2K REDCODE RAW scaled @ 1-60 fps to Compact Flash or RED Drive (Under development)
2K REDCODE RAW cropped @ 1-100 fps to Compact Flash or RED Drive

Note that he did write "under development" for the 2K REDCODE RAW scaled, so this list is also looking forward to future options.

I believe that 30p will still be a possibility, but it doesn't look like it's a priority (also compounded by the fact that the European folk are concerned about getting even 1fps higher for their uses and that is not on the table yet either). I would expect that out of the gate, you will only get up to 24p in 4K onboard - whether that's to a RED-DRIVE, CF card, or anything else.

Oh, and you + are = you're

Check the link back up there in post #2. Jim says "4K REDCODE RAW @ 30 fps is still a planned spec and is in development. It will not ship with the 1st cameras."

That's not only the European folk! PAL/SECAM is more widespread than NTSC (consult this map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PAL-NTSC-SECAM.svg))

Not supporting onboard 25 fps @ 4K would be a bad marketing move.
My 5 cents... :whistling:

EDIT: Ok, Jeff, saw the link. Sounds promising. Wow! Didn't know you look sooo hot!

I'm glad that I campaigned so hard for this. (I have no idea if they took notice) I think its going to be the format of choice for a lot of productions, in the same way that 720p is still very popular on the HVX200 despite the availability of more limiting 1080i/24p.

I'm surprised that 30p 4K is not in these new specs and I wonder if its just a little bit of imprecision in his list or is Jim being more conservative about listing what they've finished versus what they are pretty sure about.

I hope RED comes out with a new official chart, much hijinx will ensue.

Please accept my apologies. I saw a post in Jim's thread that said something to the effect of "don't forget the Europeans!" and I was just trying to echo that sentiment here. I certainly was not intending to offend.

With that in mind, it would be awfully nice if there were unified (international) standards in place.

Hehe. I knew I chose the wrong new avatar image. Yep she's purty, my camera likes to take those pictures. As for me, I just look like some dude in his 30's that needs a shave.

Apologies accepted.

I find 4K @ 18-26fps very much so needed for martial arts, action, and pieces needing that extra bit of umph, I hope this is also delivered upon release.
