Nice! It's fixed a big problem for me - I have this R3D that I downloaded that broke somehow. Before when I tried to play it, it would work until it got to the broken bit, and then all the clips would go black, the histogram would mess up, and I wouldn't be able to play anything without restarting the program. Now it's all fixed - I just get messed up video while playing the broken part, but everything else seems to work.

EDIT: With a little more playing around, it seems that the clip still messes things up - after I play it I can't use curves any more... Do you want a copy of it, Jarred?

One other thing - what does the package install that needs root privileges? Because I just dragged the old alphas I had to my trash, but if it's installing something somewhere else should I have uninstalled them differently?

it now should automatically remove the old version and then install the new version.. which is why it needs those permissions i would imagine. no need to delete the old version anymore.

You might want to do a permission repair, and as Jarred said it installed strait up, and anything that went on in the BG was done without asking for anything.

Ah sorry..it only looks for the version beforehand.. and this version is a few builds past what you guys had last.

Yes it installs as a separate app untouching the older version, so I guess there is still the need to remove the older one manually.

So we have to keep them updated :).

My newly installed version calls itself REDCINE-X-00001520 and the original is still just REDCINE-X

THANKS SO MUCH!!

As an Alpha build keep the build number in the app name... that way the auto installation down the road will go smoothly. You can garbage your old REDCINE-X version.

Rocket toggle off/on isn't working for me. Is there a firmware or restart we need to do?

The rocket button is constantly lit yellow.

Hey, speaking of Redcine X...
It crashed on me today when I loaded up a pretty long (8 minutes plus) take and tried to adjust the scale of the timeline.
If I experience a crash, is it useful to save the OS X Crash Report and send it to you guys? I'm not even sure if you can save it... I think it always gets sent directly to Apple. But would that be useful info to your coders? If so, how can I save it? Just copy all the text?
Cheers,
Harry

Hey Kevin.. goto the settings menu and check the USE ROCKET option.. a little popup will say " Redcine-X will not use Rocket on next startup " .. then restart the program.. when it restarts the icon should not be lit.

Jarred Land
09-16-2009, 07:42 PM
Harry dont worry about the crash reports for now.. the framework is going to change tremendously over the next couple weeks so the crash reports are of little value.

You guys however can give usability requests... those always help.

Argh, Rocket is still not working here. Is this a limitation of it being in the 4x slot? ROCKETCINE-X works with it in this slot fine, despite the warning at start-up.

I restarted and still the Rocket is yellow, but I'm not getting any signal out from HD-SDI. The button will not toggle off/on, either.

Jarred Land
09-16-2009, 08:13 PM
HD-SDI isnt going to work properly on this alpha.. and you need to toggle it off and on in the menu.

Kevin Wild
09-16-2009, 08:17 PM
Oh, gotcha'. I always think in terms of playing out when you talk Rocket.

Thanks. The audio wasn't holding sync for me, but that is possibly a 4x slot issue, because that is what happens when we put the Kona LHe in the 4x slot, too.

Great work on this app...it is seriously coming along.

Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something? I appreciate that the timeline is caching for smooth playback but at the same time it makes the interface unworkable slow. Is there a way to turn the rendering in the background off or something?

Hi Jarred, if you can make the RGB slider position in the middle and make the histogram window 2 times bigger, that would be great.

How can I change the color space & gamma space to Camera RGB & RED LOG as the default setting?

Also when you turn on the loop button and play an .r3d file that has a sound, the first time it play, the audio will be sync but after the second playback it will be out of sync continuously.

Thanks,

Hi Jarred,

Are there any plans to include Shot Framing?

X-Scale, Y-Scale
X-Offset, Y-Offset

Harry Clark
09-17-2009, 12:13 PM
Or make the histogram sizable...
Also, this may have been requested, but regarding whatever kind of LUT gets exported from the program: can we have one file type that works across all the apps/ camera/ SDK? Right now, Final Cut wants an .RLX from RedAlert!, the cameras wants an .RSX from Redcine, etc.
It would be great to have some universality so we have an easier time making our looks follow through the post stage etc.
Cheers,
Harry

this is GREAT. i love where you guys are going. once this thing hits, and the developers get a hold of the third party plugin architecture, this is going to be the soup du jour for a while.

if i was RED, i would charge non-camera owners for this program. hell, charge camera owners if you liked. if you charged even $99 a pop, you'd still sell thousands of copies. then maybe you could get deanan some more help and let him sleep a little ;)

we don't need everything for free RED.

on second thought, i bet deanan gets his best work done when sleep deprived......that guy is pure genius.

A couple of ideas:

- I second the resizing of the histogram option
- Save workspace layouts (preferably the option to save multiple)
- Allow a Shift or Alt button toggle when making color adjustments to toggle how fast the image control sliders move- for minor tweaks to color that might be hard to get with a wide range slider in a confined space that we have currently.
- When cropping clips, have a frame count that lets you know exactly the frame you are currently setting as an in (or out) point and show final frame count of a clip in the timeline.

Hello Jarred,

Is possible to add the Linear Light option?
Is working the detail option?, i can't see the difference between max and min.
In my computer only 4 thread is working at max, is possible to use all the power of the computer?

Thanks in advance!

saludos

Jose Miguel.

We should hopefully have the next Alpha in less than 10 days. This will be a housecleaning build.. the guys have spent the last 2 weeks re-writing the framework so it is much more optimized. That means there won't be alot of new features since you last checked in, but REDCINE-X should run alot better (and quicker). The new stuff will fall in pretty quick after that.

The good news is Deanan's new team has turned into a well oiled machine.. We added a few more rockstars and they are literally working around the clock.. I just left RED and they were still there coding away.

We all are very excited about the roadmap for REDCINE-X.. and appreciate everyone's patience as we get closer to the finish line ...actually.... it is more like just the starting line :)

I see big things for this piece of software. 2010 is going to be a very RED year.

Redcine -X is great!

The only thing that bothers me is the slow response of the curve. while doing a correction the playback slows and stutters.
In the old Redcine all responses where much faster, so one light was extremely comfortable while playing a sequence. I miss that a lot in this version.

Thanks.
