Since the "Some Good 1080p News" thread got shut down only 1 day after it was started :( , I never had a chance to thank the RED team regarding the Firmware News. (subject to change of course).

If others missed it, ... here are some parts of what Jim stated:
( I recommend reading the full post/thread here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=65551&postcount=1 )

...1st off, we haven't decided anything yet. 2nd, the good news about this program is that it can change...

...Nothing is locked down... ever. As we continue to figure out how to implement features (given the constraints of our foundation) we will do so. We have said that not all features will be enabled at the beginning. We are trying to lock down what the target is for the next few months. If there is a group that NEEDS 720P and/or 1080P, given enough time we can provide that. There may well be two or three software options in the future. Pick one and load it. Change your mind and load another. That is certainly possible and we are now considering this as an option for the future.

What I heard through this debate the past few days is that there really are many who are holding on to 720P and 1080P recording. We are now looking at what we can do to satisfy those needs. It may not happen immediately, remember that these were to be the last features enabled anyway, and if we have to do something creative... we will...
(again, check out the full post/thread, so you don't miss anything)

The willingness of Jim and the RED Team to be so open to their current and future customer base (especially at this late in the development timeline) is simply incredible.

I remember the first night that Jim posted the 720/1080 question. I remember thinking about it in as many scenarios as possible, trying to decide the issue... but, of course, we are all limited to our own experiences and needs.
Not too long after the debate had begun, it occurred to me, based upon what Jim had said about the spec limitations, that a Firmware approach might make sense and satisfy all parties. (In fact, I may have been the first one to bring it up. :) )

Anyway, the debate continued, and it was incredibly educational and interesting to hear about other's production needs, shooting styles, and workflows. I may even try some new formatting techniques just based upon the recent threads. As it went on, back and forth, other members of the forum also were considering the same Firmware option. Well, now it seems like it might become a real possibility, perhaps sometime down the road, but at least a possible reality. (all things subject to change, of course, but still.)

I am just so appreciative that RED takes the time to listen to all of us here.
Again, since the other thread got closed, and I was "offline" for a day, I wanted to just say thank you.

Here, here.

RED continues to show unprecedented respect for their customers and this community continues to be vital, informative and pretty amazing in its own right.

It's just so freakin' cool that no matter what choices RED makes for the initial release, you know that with a little patience you're going to get exactly what you want - and most likely more.

The gift that keeps on giving...

Yes the usual suspects would be building and selling two seperate cameras an inventing reasons why one camera couldn't be upgraded!

Jim is working hard at delivering maximum flexibility for min price which will further help rapid and continued development born from in the field experiences and a barrage of helpfull feedback.
