"The Envion Oil Generator provides a revolutionary solution to the problem of plastic waste by transforming it from an environmental hazard into a sustainable, renewable energy source," said Envion CEO Michael S. Han.
OK... not exactly renewable energy the oil...!!!
I'd say transforming an environmental hazard into another environmental hazard...
But its a good idea... although I prefer the plug in cars... charged with a 5Kw solar cells array when parked... Its allot cheaper than oil...

What's the point of this... could you not just melt down the plastic and reuse it to make new plastic products?

Yea exactly.

It's possible, but it ended with transporting plastic waste to China = big carbon footprint and even now during crisis they dont want to buy it.
It makes more sense if you reuse it localy, but process is expensive with zero profit so nobody wants to do it.

Its sounds like a good idea. What I don't agree with is setting fire to anything else to release energy, renewable or otherwise, thus heating up the planet. The only way of dealing with the issue is to harness energy inbound to the planet in the form of solar and arguably wind and tidal power.
Trying to do making our contribution to use less power, this week marks the sale of our last tungsten lights :-) We are now entirely CFL, HMI, LED, CMH and a few halogen lights.

We are now entirely CFL, HMI,
Don't break'em or you could die from mercury posioning. Also, never throw them out (you could pollute the ground water), you can't throw out Flourescent lights nor can you throw them in the recycling, you'd have to drive them to the recycling center (thus burning gasoline).
There's nothing wrong with buring anything, just capture the exhaust and run it through various chemical reactions, to make it safe.

Unfortunately to make old tungsten lights is way less hazardous to enviroment than to make all that new energy saving lights :banghead:
When you say A, you must say B ie think about all consequences.
Like: I dont want to wear leather shoes because I like animals - therefore I will buy plastic ones ... ok, but most plastic is made from oil and manufacturing it creates chemical mutagens which are extremly nasty to all living creatures and so on ...
Plugin e-cars are great because you got clean air in your city, but it will creates more pollution somewhere else at where powerplant is - except solar, hydro, wind and wave powerstations.
