The CompactFlash Association has formed a working group to revamp the card format with a SATA specification replacing today’s PATA one. This will mean faster speeds and higher capacities. Today’s cards top out at 32GB and 40MB/s transfer speeds.

The new cards will be compatible with current camera and new cameras will be compatible with current CF cards.

For grins PATA throughput maxes out at 100 MB/s, SATA 1 at 150 MB/s, SATA 3 at 300 MB/s and proposed SATA 6 at 600 MB/s.

How will this affect 2k/4k frame rates for over/under cranking? I suppose it really is a matter of combined factors, including data throughput plus what the CMOS sensor can process at a selected size.
