View Full Version : Trouble with R3D's into FCP

We shot on four cameras about 16 hours of footage last weekend. I've decided to transcode my r3d's into PR proxy files and then use color to do my grade. Tested the workflow - all good.

Now, the problem is that I have a handfull of odd clips that fall into one of two categories.

Some of them have zero data on my drive (and on the back up drive I was given). The DIT assures me that all the files were copied with verification (but I guess a manual verification was not done). Question here is.... is there any way that data is being "hidden" somehow and not showing up in the size? or should I just write off these reels.

Second category is odd - there is data in the files and it will even load into RedAlert and RedCine - but it will crash upon import into FCP. Is there some way I can continue to use my workflow and include these files into it if I use redrushes or something of that nature?

(Latest official RED software, FCP 7, OSX leopard)

Thanks.

have you tried using red alert to remake your qt proxies?

I should have clarified that I'm using the FCP transcode to 422 proxy method workflow - not using the "alias" proxies.

Hi Mark,

#1 : Is it The R3D files, or the proxies ?
#2 : Try to transcode using RedAlert, if you said that the files can be loaded using RedAlert.

Have you tried REDUNDEAD?

danu -

for 1) for the files which have data it's the R3D files which have data but they won't let me transcode into FCP

for 2) I could try to transcode them in another program, but will that link with Color? I would basically be making a new master file for them? I'm not sure what that process would be.

In reading the instructions, redundead seemed geared exclusively for the data cards because it deals with the file systems. The data cards are long since erased and reused.

Mark,

Use RedAlert...you're not going to lose metadata...if you were using RedRushes for transcoding the file, than u can use RedAlert. For sample, try to transcoding 1 file.

I have experienced, that RedRushes won't transcoded the files, but when i try to transcoded using RedAlert, it works...

If you have time, dig deeper at Red Workflow session...i learned a lot from there...

Just to clarify - I'm using FCP to log and transfer (as recommended by the workflow documentation when ending in color) and not redrushes. I may give that a shot but I'm not sure how I would eventually re-link the data.

thanks danu, I'd seen that in my search for a solution, but his problem is a different problem than mine in that he was having frozen renders and issues inside of color.
