What is the latest news on onboard 4k framerate? I heard 24, and that would be a disaster for all us PALl-dudes shooting for television. There is no good pulldown that goes from 24 to 25. A lot of the old film stuff actually runs 4% slower on tv then on film. Greame, pls tell us you will fit in that one little extra frame/second and you will have people celebrating St. Greame's-day all over europe and other PAL countries.

all the best

I believe that it would be crazy and ultimately stupid not to include 25p 4k recording and since we know that the RED team includes really smart guys we only have to be a little patient until they make it happen.

I wouldn't worry so much about it.

The camera claims to support any frame rate from 1fps to the max framerate for a given format (2k@100p, for example). So you should be able to dial-in 25fps. And shoot for PAL. Depending on what you're shooting, you might also shoot 50fps progressive, and convert it to PAL/25i.

Hi,

I don't think all the features are working from day 1.

I am sure you will get 25fps, but maybe not in the first cameras.

That has been announced by red for quite some time.
Red wrote that they are working on 25p.
It isn´t sure if it will make it in the first software version.

Edit:

Staying too little on the board these days, too much to do.

1-30 @ 4k it is , Thanks Jeff!

Take a look at the "What we CAN do" threads from last week. Jim said that onboard recording of 30fps @ 4K (and rates below that, so yes, 25fps) are still in the spec. They just are not all working or tested yet.

HERE's the specific post... (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=65204&postcount=19)

25P will be enabled in the 1st 50 cameras, or via upgrade within a VERY short period of time. We fully understand the importance. We will have a booth at IBC (small one) so we can't look too stupid there.

(Even if I never though that the Redone will have this kind of limit...)

25P will be enabled...

Stiller,

I guess you new studio on Lidingö will be in good shape now that this is settled! I've reserved two RedOnes and all the red lenses and other goodies for private use. Feel free to borrow them if the three you've bought don't suffice ;-)

Faster on TV... than on film! When shot in 25p and screened in 24 (for ex. 35mm) it gets slower.

Tresch, I was just about to say that. Slower when printed to film from 25fps and faster when telecined to 50i or 25p from 24fps.

Wasn't the Star Wars trillogy sped up when on VHS the first time?

I'm lost and I'm in PAL land. I thought the whole attraction of shooting 24p was so it could be sped up 4% for PAL ( what's done with all film) or have pulldown added for NTSC. Oh and it works just fine in cinemas too.
I mean I guess you could fly it the other way around but why?
I know 16mm used to be shot at 25fps for local news way back when but that's a rather different scenario.

Depends on your primary target is, doesn't it? If you have a local ENG production in your local language that will probably never printing for film you'd stick to 25p.
