View Full Version : IBC Speculation

I thought it might be entertaining to guess what Red has in store for us at IBC. So far we know that the stand will be small but bigger than last year and that footage will be shown on the BIG screen in the superb RAI digital cinema, but not much beyond that. So what can we expect to see on the stand, how many cameras will be set up, will there be any new surprises, maybe a mock-up of the Pocket-RED or pricing for the 4k projector/displays. Will we see any new footage or maybe a video diary on set from some of the ongoing productions.
So pull out your crystal balls, give them a quick buff-up and gaze deep, deep inside... the clouds are clearing... what can you see?

I think we might see a re-graded Crossing the Line. I Also hope for more details on the projector. Dreaming: One for full cinema and one for smaller applications like grading and home theater. Some before and after shots from Wanted, maybe...

Now, nobody forget about the pocket camera.

We will show working cameras and "Crossing" on the big screen. We have been pretty busy finishing the RED ONE.

Excellent. I am looking forward to seeing "crossing" on the huge screen, somewhere near the front hopefully.

isn't there enough speculation already on this board?

There is probably too much, but it is never clearly labelled as speculation. If you read this thread you know exactly what you are getting.

I think he means a re-graded version of Crossing the Line - there was talk awhile back of doing more refined color correction as the first version was (understandably) rushed.
I can't imagine there will be a prototype of a pocket camera - they haven't even released RED ONE yet, and I would assume that with just two weeks to go, that's a fairly top priority. :sarcasm:

clear solid facts would be nice for a change... and of course my camera in my hands :-)

i would love to see or get details on the pocket cam but the last thing red needs is to distract people from the red one's release. since the release schedule begins right around ibc, the big news will be the red one shipping very soon and that will generate many more orders for red-orders for a real product that red can build and ship.
on the other hand, 4k projectors and monitor news/specs would only drive more sales of red one and just imagine how amazed everyone would be to see crossing the line projected using red's new 4k projector. looks like i just started a new rumor for the reading impaired.

I'm with you but the facts tend to come at their own pace and along with the new non-locked down continual development policy there will probably be continual speculation... for ever.

Jim, will there be a showing of Crossing each day?
I'm going on Friday and I'm very keen to see it, I'd be gutted if I missed it after all these months! If you aren't going to be showing on the Friday would there be a chance to view it in the booth at all? Even on a 30" mac?

There was some discussion about a re-graded version of crossing the line a few weeks ago in the "Review of Ted talk & filming of 'Crossing the Line' at AFTRS (Sydney)" thread :
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=60529#post60529
Q5. Have you seen film outs of Red footage? Ted said he goes to Park Road, Wellington NZ tomorrow to see regraded footage. Peter Jackson has re-graded ‘Crossing the Line’ and says the film out looks excellent. They have done a film out which Ted will see in the next couple of days. Did a screening at EGA in LA with Mark Neveldine?, director of ‘Crank’. Looked at some film out test footage they shot. Ted's impression of the test footage was it was locked, pristine, cool, digital technology. They then looked at a 35mm film out of the footage and thought it looked old school. Looked at a ProRes and were also impressed. Falloff is very film like.
but maybe this re-graded version was only for the film-out ?

Hello Mr. Jannard,
will we have a chance to look at the 4K RED projector on the stand as well ?
I would be grateful even to see the Proto Type or kind of Design.
I am your supporter in " Never give up on the impossible things " and a change is gonna come from RED like the SUN.
May I suggest the new 4K named RED-XK means Infinity in K factors in the projection history.
Bets regards,

I was thinking more details about it, but Wigby made a valid point.
