Hey guys,

We're about to launch our website for our small production / rental house in a few months and I'd be delighted to know what the Red community thought of our logo (psst... it's our Red's serial number :wink5:)

http://6621.com.au

Thanks in advance :)

It's certainly subtle.

Might consider cranking up the brightness and contrast just a bit. I could barely see it on my (calibrated) Macbook Pro.

More contrast would make it look better on black & white letterhead too.

I like it. But it took about 30 seconds to figure out there were letters and then until I saw the URL I thought it said BB31. Probably nothing can be done about the second problem but being a bit brighter and contrasty could improve readability I think.

Hi Mark, great job on the logo. having a wee bit of logo creation experience I'd have to agree with the brightness/contrast issue. Also, a logo doesn't have to have your business name on it. It can be added as something extra while marketing. But you want your logo to be someone that someone can easily recognize. I would encourage you to think about yourself and what your company embodies and try to come up with a simple to the point design that can be represented in one color (preferably black or white for ease of use across mediums). These aren't absolutes, but a good starting place.

Josh, speaking of logos.... what does your logo (avatar) represent? I'm just curious because it looks cool.

Yeah, hard to read.

Thanks I'll reply but not hijack the thread.

To be honest, I just started playing around with ideas in my head till I found something that really resonated visually with me. It started as a small section from a color wheel. Now it's really just an icon, but I've derived a meaning from it (not that it's what I had in mind when I was creating it).

The wave shape overall represent the Pacific Northwest which I am based in, as well as a general feeling of progress and forward motion.
The back curve of the wave represents a linear adjustment curve (I'm pursuing color correction), and the wispy set of lines in the center represent varying degrees of luminace (also a color reference).

I thought it was pretty cool the first time I saw it.

Do you use it as your visual identity or is it the logo of your future/current production company?

I'm not very good at drawing, so my logos are more logotypes than logos.

I usually use my own face for Visual Identity. But being as this forum is a great way to meet new folks in the industry that I am reaching out to, I'm currently using my company identity logo for my avatar. Even my "company" though is really just me... with an official-ish name.

Pretty neat. To me it looks like a Shark that got into a fight with a Bear. :ihih:

Agreed! The longer I look at it, the more designes I see in it. For instance, I can sort of see a horses head/neck too.

I guess it's only a matter of time before someone starts a "hey, check my logo" thread.

Why not?
Feedback is great.

I think this IS that thread! And it's always good to get feedback on logos. It's better to spend time and money to get a logo right than have to re-brand later at a higher cost.
