View Full Version : RED won't boot - help!

We're having big problems with RED number 1139 - the camera is refusing to boot.

When we hit the power button, we get a flashing LCD screen at the rear and nothing. Tried unplugging the EVF, viewfinder etc but still no go. Occasionally if we leave the camera with the rear LCD flashing the camera will eventually boot after five or more minutes.

We've tried updating the firmware to the latest version 20 but this has not helped.

We've informed RED and send a camera log file but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Many thanks

Best wishes

Scott

Mine is brand new and is hanging on boot up..it hangs for a minute then power down briefly and then boots normally.....Sean at Red suggested it might be related to my ac adaptor as I dont have batteries yet I cant try until next week when they arrive....hope I dont have to send my brand new camera back as I live in North Queensland.....

Hi Ross

Sorry to hear you're having similar hang/boot issues, especially on a brand new unit.

I have looked at power as a possible cause - we are using Anton Bauer batteries and these have worked perfectly in the past so I'm not convinced it is a battery problem. I've checked the AB mount and all looks well...we are using Hytron 140 batteries so they are certainly up to the job and they are in very good condition.

I hope to hear back from RED soon and will post what we discover from the camera log file.

Hope you manage to get your problem resloved by RED, keep me posted please.

Best wishes

if you haven't already, try unplugging ALL accessories and booting up again......

If this is serial number 1139, I assume that this is a new problem?

Someone from the Bomb Squad should be contacting you shortly.

In the meantime... if you can get it to boot again, "reset defaults".

Thanks Jim

Times like this I'm reminded what a great company RED is, your support is superb...cannot imagine for one minute the head of Sony or Panasonic responding personally when a camera has problems!

This is a new problem Jim and as suggested I will try to "reset defaults" if I can get the camera to boot.

Brent, I will e-mail you with our ticket number, your help on this is appreciated.
