My FCP is crashing everytime I try to access files on my ext harddrive. This drive has had no problems in the past. Log and transfer does not crash when access files of my laptop. I can transfer files from ext drive to desktop and use log and transfer with no problem. Any suggestions as to what my problem might be?
cheers

Yes I am using a 2.8 ghz core 2 duo with 8 gb 1067 mhz of memory.
The drive I am using is a 1tb Western Digital (speed ?) I bought from Costco. It worked fine via FCP at the beginning. I did re format the drive to work as Mac OS Journaled. I did work fine before as a Fat 32 format.
Thanks for your help,
John

How are you connecting the external to your computer?

USB since it does not have a firewire 800 out.

That might be the problem. I never use USB with anything final cut but I have had friends who do and it crashes. I could be wrong though since you did say it used to work fine. I would say try to borrow a drive with firewire transfer the files to it and see what happens just to rule out it being a software problem.

usb should not effect it at all, it will just be really slow transfers. just incase though try one clip at a time and see if it still crashes. if it still does, you can try trashing your preferences, that helps sometimes. u can also uninstall the redcode l&t plugin and reinstall, and of course clean reinstall of everything, fcp, redcode, redcode l&t. all else fails you always have red rushes.
