The 27 also gets video in via Displayport, which is just excellent for home use.

I'm guessing it's either Bachman Turner Overdrive, or Built to Order

Perfect! My kitchen reno is finished today and an iMac 21.5" will soon have a place of honor in it.

FINALLY!!!!! They finally pulled their heads out of their asses and answered the millions of requests to be able to use an iMac as a display as well. (27" only)

The only thing that's missing from the iMac is an ExpressCard slot (or even an actual PCI-E slot) so we can hook up a decent external storage system.

Now I have to say one thing that I thought I would never say... Apple has finally made what appears to be a good mouse. And not only that, the new multi-touch Magic Mouse looks freakin' amazing.

I'm seriously tempted to pick up a 27" ...Actually want to get a computer for the family anyway. This may be a good excuse, probably will skip the quad-core for the family computer though.

Also, there has been a pretty nice price drop ~$1000 (according to TUAW) on the top spec 17" MBP.

Not on the MBP... or at least not here in the USA. Still the same price in the store as what I paid a few weeks back. $2499 base price and all the options remain the same too. I've got the 17" 3.06GHz w/ anti-glare screen. Damn nice system all around, love it.

The new iMacs are priced very well though...

Anyone notice that the new imacs comes standard with both a wireless keyboard and mouse? Is this new? You can change it to a wired one, though.

Karl,

Interesting link, but I have no clue what they're talking about. It's been that price for some time now. I ordered one nearly a month ago for that price, typing on it right now. I can go to the online store and configure it right now for the same price I paid... Price has been the same on the top model since mid September. I think TUAW.COM is slow to notice the last price adjustment. :-/ The only thing that's changed is Apple is now selling a different remote. TUAW.COM did notice that today.

Yeah they mentioned it in the promo video as a big thing.
"We want everything to be wireless" something like that.

It makes sense, Steve hates wires clutter.

I had a wireless keyboard for my iMac 24". When I took it on location the wireless would sometimes cause me to have to re-boot several times before it would recognize the keyboard. Plus it took 3 AA batteries and would love to lose power at the worst times. So I replaced with a good old wired keyboard with a numeric keyboard. The wired keyboard has 2 USB slots so you actually gain an additional USB slot. - So if anyone really wants a wireless keyboard - I have one for sale - cheap - Heh, Heh, I always was a shitty salesman.....

The i7 version with enough RAM will be a very decent affordable RED capable system.

Nice update. My opinion:

Monitors:
It's very good they switched to IPS technology. That's one of the things that made Panasonic LCD's kick ass. 16/9 is better for me, I'm hoping too see even wider ratios some day. LED backlight is always welcome (for now).
New resolution offer (1080p in 21.5" and 2560x1440 in 27") is great. Finally there is a video in. Lack of it in 21.5" is lame.

Housing
Wider, less clunky - very nice improvement.

Mouse
Looks like there is a hope for Apple mouse after all. Glad to see ridiculous bar of soap being ditched. This one looks promising. Still not great, because it looks symmetrical, which human palm is not, but it's better. Laser tracking is a great improvement. I like the sensor being on the front (as with older mouse), which is what all mouse manufacturers should be incorporating because it's more realistic pointer control, being closer to fingertips. Moving it under pointing finger would be even better. Its lower profile should be more comfortable. Seamless multi-touch surface has a lot of potential (I'd like to be able to swipe through FCP timeline with it, for example), but it's a question of how relaxed your fingers can be on its surface without accidentally pressing something. If pointing and middle finger tendons have to be tense all the time = no go.

Keyboard
As long as the keys are white with a lot of unused space between them, this will be just a designer showcase for me, nothing else and certainly not a practical keyboard. My aluminum Apple keyboard is in the drawer collecting dust, replaced by wireless Logitech diNovo Mac edition and my typing is back to normal.

Graphics
Better but still suck, IMO. Not that it's important but games mentioned in the specs will be sucky with those cards. On 2560x1440 especially.

Core i7 is long overdue.

Haha they stole one of my desktop backgrounds, only I tuned up mine: :P

If I hadn't just bought a 8 core and a macbookpro I'd totally get one
