Hi,
I had a enquiry come in today from a guy who wants us to edit a few hours of footage shot on miniDV into a pilot episode of a hunting show he needs to submit to a broadcaster in the U.S.
He needs to deliver 720p DVC Pro HD or 1080i HDCAM
I cringe at the idea of uprezzing miniDV, I hate miniDV with a passion, but can it be done, and how best to go about it?

I've had good sucess uprezzing in Apple's Color with my denoise and sharpen plugins to tidy up the image, and if necessary, de-interlace.

Graeme,
Will the denoise plug work for shots that are brought out of the mud from
underexposure?

Only way to know is to try :-) There's a free watermarked demo.

4KHub, You are going 50i -> 25p -> 24p / 23.98p (with 4% slowdown), with an upres mixed in somewhere, right?
Graeme's plugins work well. Since he hasn't made a PC-compatible version yet, and I know you're PC user, you can always After Effects with the following plugins:
Magic Bullet for DV artifact removal (I slightly prefer it to Algolith and it is definitely better than blur + median on the color channels).
Re:Vision deinterlacer (again, I slightly prefer it to Magic Bullet, and it's definitely better than After Effects' built in one - not sure about Sapphire, etc)
...and maybe give the competing uprez filters a go (they use better algorithms than standard bilinear / bicubic which is your only options with After Effects) - either InstantHD or Digital Anarchy's ReSizer or maybe BCC's UpRez?
There are other options, of course! Since you're going with Scratch, maybe take a look at what the Foundry's stuff can do - Furnace on Shake is very good at this sort of thing too. Even the latest versions of Tinderbox have some deinterlacing, etc... you can get those plugins for Scratch.

Alright, those are some great suggestions!
Thanks, I downloaded the demo of InstantHD and I'm going to check out some of the others you mentioned.
I would like to do this within Scratch, so I'll see what plugins there are available and I'll check which ones I am getting with the system, maybe they will already be loaded up.
