In the event that I am able to purchase a RED system, will I be able to us my Arri MB16 mattebox with the RED base plate?

I talked to one of the red team a while back. He said that they're using a mb20 with 19mm rods, if that helps.
With the way the Camera is set up you could probably, use a couple of lock washers, some bailing wire, and it would still look like they were made for each other.

Not familiar with the MB20. I suppose the day I go RED, I'll have to grind and break the tack welds and see if it fits. Modular, my ass.

Uh, what? If you have an MB16 for 15mm rods just use a rod adapter, either from ARRI or RED.

Red team - Which Arri follow focus unit and gearing would you recommend with the MB-20 for Red lenses (zooms and primes)?

I was just joking. My question is "will the RED base plate have the same lateral dimensions as the the MB16?" I'll have to measure the MB16. Maybe someone has these numbers.
