Here are a few pics from todays conference of around 40 international motion picture producers who assembled at the Westin on Maui, Hawaii. The event was hosted by Colin Hubick and Kevin DeWalt of Minds Eye Entertainment (http://www.mindseyepictures.com/) as well as Ted Schilowitz from RED. Ted could not fly over (post surgery doctors orders), so he attended the meeting and had an informative Q&A with everyone via iChat. Attendees got to ask direct questions on integrating Red One and upcoming Epic & Scarlet into their respective productions. A phenomenal trailer of Red footage was also shown on the HD projector. Presentations were also given by other fellow producers on workflows, production insights, and how they have integrated Red cameras into their existing productions. After the conference we all worked our way into the lobby, set up a Red One, and shot some test footage of the Flamingos, parrots, fish, people out in the lagoon at the Westin. Producers got to play around with the camera, pull focus, have some fun with the Birger wireless Impero mounted on our lightweight run&gun Red set up. 1Beyond (http://www.1beyond.com/) kindly sent Colin a HexDFlex editing, compositing, compression, color grading, 3D mobile system to demo. More meetings tomorrow and we will be out and about Maui shooting more footage. Aloha & Stay tuned.

Day 2 of the gathering of IQ Motion Picture Producers, and the whole crew of producers were treated to a full day tour of Maui from 7 am-9pm! The weather here has been awesome, light trades, sunny, but unfortunately the large NW swell forecasted......never arrived. Colin and myself separated off from the crew to shoot some more Maui stock with the Red One. We started by going out to Honolua Bay with the intent of scoring some epic surf footage, but were greeted by 1ft. waves and one guy out. So we ended up shooting some nice scenics in great light, but not much in the way of action. We shot using Build 21 in 4.5kWS Redcode 42.......and it looked amazing. Next we headed down to Lahaina Harbor to shoot some of the big game fishing boats. Colin decided he wanted to roll down front street with the tripod/Red in the back bed to get some dolly type shots. This ended up being pretty amusing to all the tourists cruising front street. Next up was some longboarding shots at a local surf spot. Colin took all the Maui footage and cut/graded a quick trailer to show the capabilities of 4.5K WS and RC42. A full day and good fun. More meetings tomorrow. Here a few shots from today.

I thought this was about something entirely different.
The thread title seems to propose (to the uninitiated) that the collective gray matter of Hawaiian film executives is somehow "wanting". :sosp:
My bad.

check out www.iqfilm.org for an idea of what IQ is.
This experience for me was great, this was not a profitable experience for anyone; in terms of monetary gain. Elliot donated his time, I donated my time, we had lenses donated from Production Services, a 1beyond system donated, Ted donated his time, everyone just came together to just try and make it happen. And happen it did. There was another fellow on the island that I thought I would be able to pay for a camera rental, but in the end I could not, I hope he's not too bitter that I had to back out, it truly wasn't out of malice, in the end it couldn't be afforded for a non-profit organization, even with low low price I was given, (which I appreciate as well) If this were a paying gig I would have gladly paid 4 times as much. Anybody who has worked on projects of mine know that when the budget is good I pay very well. When the budget isn't so hot, we do the best we can, and remember those that helped us out.
So what was the gain in the end? well making new friends with like minded goals in filmmaking is a big one. This is the very essence of what IQ is all about, sharing not only the good times, and successes, but the hard times and failures. This allows others to learn from your experiences, and you to learn from their experiences. Again this is the main philosophy of IQ, and I think in the end with everybody coming together we did succeed. Funny that the philosophy of IQ is very much the same as reduser.net and I have learned and contributed to both.
thanks to the Elliot's of the world, thanks to reduser.net, and thanks to Red for making it possible for me to create with such a wonderful tool.
