The Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III and Canon EOS 40D.

21.1MP... Wow. I thought 16 was enough but I'll accept it when ever you give me more, Canon.

No ISO 6400 like the EOS 1D Mark III, just 50-3200, I guess the photosites are too small. Oh well.

5fps, he he, it's double the resolution and half the speed (in burst mode) of the 1D Mark III. Just like last time.

The 40D is like the 400D and 30D combined. Except 6.5fps!

Oh, and they both have Enhanced Live View.

Maybe they'll leak the 5D Mark II soon.

I think they are about too. I saw a post recently about some interesting new sensor design that is full color. Nikon seems to be more concerned about overall image quality instead of sheer image size.

These cameras are now officially on the Canon website.

Canon (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=15710)

Due out in November for the 1Ds Mark III and September for the 40D,

Something I found interesting on the Amazon website was the small blurb at the bottom about a new version II of the L series 14mm prime.

that new 1ds looks awesome. a worthy succesor, 21mp, sensor cleaner and live view on 3" screen. one glaring omission for people shooters, flash sync is still only 250, bummer. otherwise very impressive.

Interested in reading the preview at DPReview?

What about the 40D?

Canon announced a lot of new consumer cameras too. If you're interested, their at DPReview too, but not previews. G9 sounds good.

Also very interesting: sRAW.

In addition to retaining the RAW image capture capabilities of its predecessors, the EOS 40D SLR now offers a more manageable "sRAW" recording format. In sRAW mode, the number of pixels is reduced to one-fourth that of a standard RAW image and the file size is cut in half, while retaining all of the flexibility and creative possibilities associated with full-size, conventional RAW images.

Basically 1/4 scaled RAW....

I read at DP review that they are using a full frame sensor, nice, but what about vignetting issues? Have they fixed that junk yet?

I just had a chance to play with the 1d Mark III at a seminar where Bill Frakes talked and showed some of his work. It is awesome. www.billfrakes.com

It has a different feel than the 1d MarkII N that I have... Lighter... will take getting used to the new button arrangements.

One thing I thought was kind of a drag is you lose autofocus when in live view. Makes sense since the mirror is lifted and you get a feed from the sensor... but it seems it would be most useful when you couldn't look through the veiwfinder during action scenes... I guess you're looking at more static scenes or really a big DOF. Still very cool none the less. The ISO range was very nice. Can't wait to see the new big bad boy.

Canon’s new flagship digital SLR produces files that convert to over 100MB uncompressed 16-bit TIFF, setting a new benchmark in image resolution and sharpness for 35mm-format digital photography.
Good grief! That means you can fit a whopping 7 images onto one CD-R - or in a different light, that's 2.4GB of data for each second of uncompressed 24p (if the camera could do it). Sounds like Canon could use some REDCODE. :-P

I hope everyone has lots of hard drive space handy! :)

Probably nothing new, but CNet.Au released an article yesterday outlining some of the features (and local pricing!) of the two new SLRs:

http://www.cnet.com.au/digitalcameras/cameras/0,239036184,339281359,00.htm

It talks a bit generally about their business plan, products and competition they are facing.

It's not really RAW if they scaled it then is it? More like scaled bayer. Doesn't the RED ONE offer scaled 2K RAW?

No, windowed - unless something's changed in the last week or so and I've missed it...

Scaled bayer... That means they take one pixel from one pattern and another pixel from another one, and combine them all together to make one complete one?
