Is there anybody in the know that can tell me if RED is still accepting $1000 down payments to get in line? If so, when could I expect to make delivery if I were to down pay today?
I have tried emailing the folks at RED but I'm not receiving a response.

Spring happens to be about the time I can expect to jump aboard the Hi Def train.
Don't want to sound like a fan boy, but I'm also excited to see what Canon and others (but mostly Canon) do to follow suit. If RED is as groundbreaking as I think it will, there's going to be some big changes.

I very much doubt you'll see a response from Canon, but you never know...
Canon's market has never been the ultra high-end camera market (with lenses it's a different story, of course, but Red only increases that demand) and I don't think Red's going to realistically take that big a chunk out of Canon's XL-H1 (and even less so G1, A1 and below) sales - but it will be interesting to see what happens...
Expect Sony to make a move in the next 2-3 years or so (they'll want to re-coup on the F-23 and capitalise on those who want a proven and/or tape-based workflow for as long as possible), and Panasonic may well make a move into similar territory, or throw in the high-end towel and aim squarely at broadcast...
There may, of course, be other newcomers and Arri and Pana will continue to develop digital aquisition options - should be interesting times, the next 5 years or so!
