I was just bringing this up as it has never been considered before (to my knowledge) and I was very interested in dicussing it. The Epic-X S35 is an incredible deal for all the Red One users, and I would be more than happy to go for it, but I am seriously looking at the Epic FF35 because of its extra k of resolution. However, I will just be buying the FF35 as if I was any other customer, less the $17,500 for the trade in of my existing Red One. I was wondering if there would be any plans in the future to offer some similar trade-in for the Epic FF35 because I can afford the Epic-X S35 easily, and should be able to do the same for Epic-X FF35 if such were available, but I would hardly be able to put down the original estimated $33,000 less $17,500 for just the brain alone and then spend an additional $15,000 on accessories plus a lens that would probably start at around $15,000.

If your question is"will there be an epic-x trade in?". I doubt it but I'm pretty sure that there will be a high resale value on the epic-x brain so all you have to do is sell the brain and keep all the components when you upgrade to FF35.

From what I understand the only EPIC based R1 trade in will be for the S35 Epic.
Red is not a charity. They are helping current owner offset the cost of moving into the modular system with the DSMC replacement for the R1, the S35 EPIC.
So not only is there no package deal on modules with the EFF35, there is not even the R1 trade in value. As was stated above. Get the ES35X package and then when the FF35 comes out sell me (or others) the ES35X brain and put that towards the EFF35 brain and you already have aks/modules.
Also unless using FF glass the FF35 wont give you that extra k of rez. What it will do, as it stands right now, is give you more DR.

Jim has already said in the past that there will be no trading-in of Epic-X for FF35.
If your question is: if you are allowed to wait and trade in your RED ONE for the FF35 ($33K less $17,500), will you also get the free modules?
I don't think there has been any official word recently on if you will even still be able to wait to trade in a RED ONE for the FF35.
If I were RED, I would not want to have the hassle of dealing with all these different trade-in options for any longer than necessary. It must be a logistical nightmare...

Yes, buying the Epic-X S35 and selling it was my idea, but by doing that wouldn't I lose any benefits from being an original red one owner? Also, would I have to go through the whole process of putting the camera through Red to transfer ownership properly? I wonder if I could get close to the $28,000 that the brain cost, too.

Even if we're able to trade in an un-executed RED One for a future model of Epic, such as the FF35 or 645, I really don't see the advantage of waiting. The Stage 2 and 3 trade-in options with all the free modules and accessories make it a no-brainer to do the trade-in now. ...And this is the opinion of someone who really wants the Epic-645 AND Scarlet FF35.
Like Curran said, there has been no official word on R1 trade-ins for future Epic models yet. In the past, it has been said that the R1 could be traded in toward other Epic models (all things subject to change), but the only trade-in option that included extra modules was the Epic-X trade.

Jim said that you can trade your RED ONE for the FF35 (or other EPIC camera).
The clear difference being that you only get free modules with the EPIC-X.

We need to know wether to wait and get the better EPIC or just go for Stage 2 or 3....

It has been posted many times that you can hold your RED ONE and trade it in for EPIC FF35.

FF35 is a Monstro chip, not an MX one, so you are talking about a nonexistent/in development chip. Surely not soon.

Original schedule (Nov.14/2008) for S35 was Spring/Fall 2009, so they are about 9 months behind their original forecast. Epic FF35 was due shortly after (winter), so I'm guessing FF35 will be here early 2011 (winter/spring).

If I were RED, I would not want to have the hassle of dealing with all these different trade-in options for any longer than necessary. It must be a logistical nightmare...There also must be a $$ cost to administer and handle all this. We can off load all this hassle from RDC just by selling our own components ourselves.

I believe that FF35 Monstro will come along more quickly than many expect. A lot of the heavy lifting for the DSMC system is being done in advance during Epic X development. I could be wrong, but I think Jim has stated or hinted that Monstro is already in development and that he is optimistic about its release date after Epic X.

Hey Rory
Where did you get this estimate from? I've been off REDUSER for a short while. Did I miss something?

Hi Dylan, here is Jim's quote from a couple weeks ago:
Early EPIC prototypes are working and taking incredible pictures...
We expect the Tattoo EPICs to be out in May.
Given our commitment to debug and enable most features before shipping production models, we expect a 2-3 month shakedown of Tattoo which puts Stage 2 delivery somewhere in the neighborhood of July-August. A lot depends on what happens throughout the Tattoo period.
The program is real... you will see in a few days.
