Can we expect compatibility Blackmagic DeckLink HD pro card 2K feature with Red through double SDI link 4:4:4 (capturing, editing...)?

Most compatibility support along those lines would be in their hands, not RED's.

The HD Pro card cannot capture 2k, but that is obviously not necessary for working with Red footage. The latest software updates enable working with a 2k time-line, and seeing a 1920x1080 crop of that on the HD-SDI output for monitoring on a broadcast monitor. This, I believe, currently only works for 2k time-lines using the Blackmagic RGB codec. They would need to specifically write drivers to enable output from REDCODE time-lines. I expect they will do that though.

Likewise the Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme supports playback of un-cropped 2k on a 30" Cinema Display, but presumably would also need to have REDCODE support specifically written.

Maybe you should email Blackmagic Design's technical support, and request support for REDCODE.

I own all the product lines from BMD: Decklink HD Extreme, HDlink, Multibridge Extreme.

But I think that the workflow with the BMD hardware is available "after" REDCINE export batches.

I'm correct?

Yes indeed. If you export from REDCINE to an HD or even 2k codec supported by the Blackmagic hardware, of course you can work with it in same way as if it had come off tape, and monitor it using the Blackmagic.

What I was talking about was codec support for REDCODE, so you could use REDCODE RGB as a codec to export from REDCINE. That Blackmagic would have to implement specifically.

Thanks, Nick.
Just wondering if the guys at Blackmagic are thinking to upgrade (via Firmware Update?) the HDLink to reach the 2K monitoring possibilities...

El,

Do you mean cropped playback or scaled?

Thanks, Nick.

mmm...
Oh yes, to visualize full 2k you need a dual link DVI.

Maybe (for a single DVI) user selectable (crop of the 88 horizontal lines exceeding the frame or scale the full frame inside the area).

Or a brand new piece of hardware: HDlinkDual...

I think Blackmagic Design seem to have abandoned development of the HDLink, for the time being at least. No firmware updates since March! I pestered them on several occasions to allow SD via HDMI on it, but nothing, despite the fact that even the bargain basement Intensity card can do that!

I doubt a 2k HDLink is in the pipeline. The HDLink is basically now incorporated into the Multibridge Extreme, complete with Dual Link 2k functionality.
