Yes but these are truly expensive...

And be careful with the cheap ones. I mean the old Schneider, old Zeiss, old Cooke, etc. If the mount does rotate when focusing, the standard to PL adapter does not work properly on the working distance.

Potholing?

Hi Martin,

Looks like vignetting, lenses that are not telecentric can be an issue on a digital sensor. I testes some on a Phantom HD, the problem cleared up by T4.

I understand you are drawing this conclusion from the fact that RED has a digital sensor but have you actually tested the primes on RED or just speculating?

If I remember correctly, I also read the "crossing the line" article where a member from Jackson's team stated that the primes behaved as they would on a film camera.

Just so you guys know.. we used the Zeiss 14mm for one of the milk girls shots, and that 14mm is used for calibration in the lab almost every day between f2.8-f4 , and we never have had a problem. Your going to get natural fall off of course to a miniscule degree.. but nothing like "a porthole"

Though I am not sure if Jarred is referring to the 14mm standard prime. Can you confirm Jarred?

Blair #19 will be putting the Zeiss standards to see if portholing will actually be an issue.

Hi There,

I have not tested on a Red yet.

I have tested a set of Standard Primes T2.1 on a Phantom HD.

The 16 & 24 mm portholed as they do on a P+S adapter, so it's reasonable to assume they will porthole WHEN WIDE OPEN on a RED.

The 14mm is a slightly different design, I have not tested it so I cant be sure either way if WIDE OPEN IT WILL PORTHOLE or NOT. The 14mm is not part of a standard set to which I was referring.

A minuscule fall off on a film camera is portholing, however it's far more obvious with a digital sensor.

I was the person who first mentioned that a set of standard primes were used for Crossing the Line, the owner of the lenses was not sure which lenses were used and at what aperture.

I am only mentioning this matter as I don't want anybody to buy a 16 0r 24mm Zeiss Standard T2.1 & be disappointed with performance wide open.

Sorry Stephen

My question was rhetorical. I was just wondering if you were questioning the suitability of these lenses for caving. You meant po"r"tholing of course. :usd:

Thanks for the info Stephen. Blair and I will put the primes through some testing next week and will upload some footage for everyone to check out. Crossing fingers.
