full set 18mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm and 75mm..
would these cover s35? any vignetting on RED in 4k?
opinions on them?
Can I match a 20-100 with them?
anyone have footage from these lenses?
what would be a fair price for the set?
Im looking around for a set, so would like to know what you guys think about them..

What mount are they in, and what housings do they have. If they are arri standard mount original housings, $1k a piece is generous.

Shot on Red with standard mount lenses adapted with Les Bosher quickrelease adapter and modified by Duclos to 80mm fronts and large gears. The set when not remounted like mine is workable but not very AC friendly, but gorgeous nonetheless, especially as far as flares are concerned.
I think 1200@ for the S3's (18,25) and 1000 for the rest would be a fair price. 500$ for the adapter and 250/lens for 80mm fronts & gears/service seems about right price wise.
If you can find a PL Century rehoused set you're looking at 10-12K

I know of a VD set that changed hands for above their conversion cost, that was 3 years ago before lens prices exploded.

saw the panchros for the first time yesterday... unbelievably tiny lenses.. NO WAY i can work with them in a real like situation. Glass looked really good.. but I just couldnt work with them. Are the RE-HOUSED versions much larger?

The re-housed lenses cost 5-10,000 per lens to rehouse, for that you got nice modern style lenses.

so basically... Im better off buying the new panchros... even at their slow 2.7?
with iso 800 (which epic might be?) that will be the new 2.0

Hi Zakaree,
Unless you want to shoot a load of 'beauty' shots of old ladies the answer is almost certanly yes! The S2/3 have a unique look, not sure you want it every day.

The re-housed panchros have 80mm fronts, come in about the same size as super speeds, maybe a tiny bit bigger. Yes the old cookes in their original housings are small, they remind me of little egg cups. :smile5:

Dear Stephen,
Why are you so against old glass? You are always too dismissive in my opinion. Old glass certainly has its place. Which is far above being a "prop" in the old Angenieux 25-250's case, and "beauty shots for old ladies" in the case of the old Panchros.
What about the Panchros being used on "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"? Or the old Angenieux being used extensively on "Barry Lyndon"? Just two random examples. In the latter, do you cringe every time you reach the respective passages in such a masterpiece? I don't think so. Those are amazing shots.
I do understand and see your point in saying that old glass is no match for the new lenses. But IMHO you are going too far in discouraging their use.
All my best Stephen,
George

The look of these lenses were amazing.. im not going to LIE. I would USE it for an entire. film. I dont know how to describe the look.. very indie feeling.
with that said, I am/sorta on a budget. I can afford the new panchros, however, I really like the look of these old lenses. and If I can get away with a set of lenses that optically I enjoy and mechanically can work with, for cheap, Then I will.
I WISH I could find the rehoused century of VD panchros. Ill buy that set RIGHT NOW.
Anyone have leads on a set?

Hi George,
I never wrote "old glass is no match for the new lenses"
I really like S2/3's, I own some. Very different from an old Arg 25-250. The Pancros were used for close ups only on Mr. & Mrs Smith. I have a set of Super Baltars as well, I just don't use them every day.
Best Stephen
BTW Shooting wide open on a 20-100 Cooke is good for close ups too!

Hi Zakaree,
Be aware that the lenses are individual. Many rebuilt lenses take the glass elements from 2 or 3 lenses. 30 years ago when prepping a lens set it was normal to test several lenses in each focal length, pick the ones that matched best at the stop you wanted to shoot at. Expect the 75mm to be very yellow, again some sets color match better than others.
Best Stephen

yes, they vignette, but you have to use it to your advantage.
we have a rehoused set, and are struggling a bit with the small markings.
