RED #7095 on its way! dumb question

Excited to get my RED this week! #7095

It will be put to work immediately shooting commercials for Kean University in New Jersey.

My dumb question is:

I ordered the camera without a CF module, because I purchased one from a RUF user. Does the camera still ship with that casing on the outside or does that actually come with the cf module order? I can clear this up on Monday with a call to RED, but was hoping to find out sooner.

order the cf module from red. i dont know one single red without it...and istalling one by your own will void the warranty..which you dont want i guess

I always thought the CF module was mandatory... didn't Jarred say something along the lines of that one being the only mandatory option?

Nah, optional.

I told my bombsquad rep about buying the used piece and they said nothing about the warranty being void or it being a mandatory accessory from RED. He did strongly suggest I buy through RED.

My only concern is really just the casing, I am confident in my ability to install the module.

on a different note, what does it mean that your name is in yellow?

Yellow is for Moderators, Red for folks who work at Red. Then there is Reduser.net sponsors (those who are allowed to post advertisings) and then rest of us, white.

Why wasnt it just part of the main package of RED? Like that breakout box should have been as well?

but seriously, anyone know if the camera comes with the outer casing?

If you order a camera without a CF Module it still has the casing, complete with the CF slot (just no module inside, so there's no pins). I know I've been sent a replacement CF Module to install myself when I was diagnosed with a faulty one so I believe it is user replaceable without voiding warranty.

Hi Charlie,

You may want to question why this person had a spare CF module to sell. Most people don't have extras lying about. And many of the early cameras had an old module that would not read 16GB cards and we were sent a replacement module with our first 16GB card order (or when the cameras were sent in for another upgrade). The old modules were supposed to be sent back to RED (to avoid confusion and to keep the old modules from floating about for situations like this). Be sure you have the v1.1 module, otherwise it's pretty much junk.

he said it was a version 2.0 and was never used. bought as a backup and he realized he didnt need to carry around an extra.
