Have any idea how long it will be before it's supported in Redcine(not X) and FCP Log &Transfer?

It's already there. Set a button to "Color" and then go chance the Color menu option from False Color to Edge Focus Assist and you'll have it on a button. There's no way to have BOTH on different buttons though. Have to wait for EPIC or Scarlet for that.

I know we can't have BOTH at the same time, or on separate buttons, but can't quite understand why it's not possible to have one button cycle through the Color options as others have suggested? Oh well... :-(
Looking forward to trying Build 21 Release though :-)

If we switch to B21 but still shoot just 4k, will RocketCine-X and Cine-X work fine?

Ditto that. I have been meaning to make that suggestion myself.

Note that on www.red.com/support, it says both of those apps support up through Build 21.

Will build 21 work smoothly in FCP?
In 4.5K? what about just 4K flavors?

I've noticed the default for Build 21.3.2 is Redcode 28. If memory serves, it was always Redcode 36 before. Any reason for the change? edit: follow-up question... Is there an advantage to changing to Redcode 42 before doing a black shading?
edit#2 Disregard the above. I remember now that I decided to shoot @ 48 fps and changed the setting to Redcode 28 for CF shooting.

Jarred,
When do we get Red Cine support for B21?
There will not be support for B21 in REDCINE... all current and future development will be in REDCINE-X.
I don't see this on the website. I see Release v20.1.6 and Beta v21.3.1

Hi Elsie, as Jarred mentioned, we have pulled Build 21 v21.3.2 off the web site in order to check some settings.
However this comment isn't accurate. The default for the camera after upgrade to any of the recent builds is REDCODE 36, 4K 2:1 and 23.98.
So can you re-check that? If you believe that it's still true for your camera, please send me a P.M and we can walk through your scenario.
On the Black Shading question - no advantage, I usually do it at REDCODE 36.

Sorry Stuart, but I'm shooting 21.3.2 right now.
My setup is 4K 2:1 RC36 23.98...
No problem at all for now...
should I downgrade?
Could you PM me with possible problems details?
Waiting a feedback...
Best Regards

Hi Raphael, if you are already using B21 v21.3.2, there is no need to downgrade.
We know that there are multiple projects shooting on this build without any issues.

Yikes!!! It's happened! I have lost my mind. I reinstalled the firmware just to see and it does indeed default to Redcode 36.

I had downloaded and installed the RELEASE version of Build 21 and had no major issues on our first day of testing (other than the 1080P playback issue--see my other post) but today as we're prepping for a 3-day commercial the camera is NOT happy. Locking up at the drop of a hat. Monitor and LCD showing 2 different aspect ratios (a first for us). Retreating back to Build 20...

The build is not showing the POST alert when you stop shooting. The camera looks like it's still recording.

Sorry Stuart...i didn't see it. Refreshed now.
My project is on of those. No problem at all.

I will post some frames as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Is this the first time Red has "recalled" a build that had gone to release version?
Stuart English
11-20-2009, 10:02 AM
Yes, but it's more of a precautionary measure while we understand a couple of issues that have been brought up.
There are many cameras running 21.3.2, and versions of Build 21 have been in use for more than 45 days without issue.

There will not be support for B21 in REDCINE... all current and future development will be in REDCINE-X.Jarred, is there any known issue with running v21.3.2 in Redcine for say a 2K 16x9 image? Can't get my head around RedCine-X yet (Windows) but updated the camera build before it was pulled.
Ran a quick test and it seems to behave as I expect it would in Redcine v20.0

Can someone explain what does support for S4i connector means? I have build 21, but can not enable/see any data on the screen.

Bakur - it's for the Cooke S4i lenses. Camera will display lens information for the S4i Cookes - similar to the ipin data from the red zooms, etc.

But I don't think it is enabled by default. You have to go into the camera preferences to turn it on.
System > Setup > Remote -- S4i Lens
System > Setup > Preferences > Display -- Lens Data

We do own Cooke S4 lenses. And I have all the menu enabled. But no information is displayed on screen. Do I need any additional equipment for this data to be displayed? Cables maybe? Or these are several pins that are next to sensor (on the upper side of lens mount on the camera) and I do not need anything else, except proper lenses.

Was Your camera sent in for the audio-board/iPin (FREE) upgrade?

you need to update your cooke lenses firmware. Cooke makes a USB cable that plugs into the lemo connector on each lens. If you are a legitimate owner of Cooke lenses, you will be emailed a link to the upgrade area so you can do it yourself or just send them to ZGC for upgrade.

We have purchased cameras and lenses 2 months ago maximum. Lenses are straight from Cooke. Do you think we still need any updates?

Possibly. It depends on when they were manufactured. The best way to tell is to hook them up and see. You'll need a Windows PC and the serial cable from ZGC. Les periodically emails us with updates to the firmware to keep everything current. Check with Cooke/ZGC if you're not sure. They'll be able to help.

You do need the specific firmware build loaded into the Cooke lenses.

I have upgraded the fleet of Red Ones and have my Cooke s4/i enabled, but I don't know where the lens data is stored in the metadata and whether it's available. Any ideas if the data is available and how to access it.

Peter you need a 250.00 dollar lemo to serial computer cable (PC) from ZGC. The cable will be able to update the latest firmware from Cooke. Contact Cooke for access to the latest firmware. Upgrade the lenses with newer firmware, I believe it's 0.39. The Red will see your Cookes, still trying to get information from Red about lens metadata and how to access it.
