ONLY 200?

I don't think that's accurate.

Well, it was originally talked about by Jim in this thread:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3226

The bad news is that "24" starts shooting the next season in 10 days and we don't have enough prototypes to go around.

Jim

But then according to Bradleyvance, it sounds like 24's schedule was pushed back? So, maybe the delayed schedule plus having more Red prototypes means they are shooting it with Red? That would be pretty sweet if it's true!

If it is true about "24" approximately when would the first episode go to air (I know you said shooting got delayed but just ballbark). Guess I'm gonna have to find a bar with a 4K big screen TV to watch it :detective2:

That is going to help in convincing myself to watch it. As has been discussed elsewhere on reduser, Season 6 was the worst yet. It was still beautiful, just not as good of writing IMO.

I dont have any direct quotes but the Camera Crew from 24 only had the best things to say about the Red camera. It was pretty cool and exciting to hear...

also i don't know how much of the show they are shooting with it... I just know they are using it and loving it...

Wasn't there a 5 unit limit to pre-orders?

24 was delayed: http://www.movieweb.com/tv/news/94/21994.php

But, according to that statement, it isn't slated to begin shooting until September.

You saw a full crew and Cast?

I really hope you're right because if you are then my job just got a helluva lot cooler!

As of my most recent phone call (today), no one has told me about any changes, but things can change fast.

I guess I'll find out next week! So at the very least I'll be able to give everyone an update then if we don't have anything more concrete before.

Heh, I thought the "24" delay was a little strange too. "Writing issues", more like "Seeing RED"!:) Can't wait to see if it's true or not!

i just saw the camera crew, i know a little more but let me find out before i get into trouble. I suppose i was a little excited when i heard the details.

the stuff i heard about 24 is more solid than the 200 cameras panavision ordered. but hey panavision in the valley, isnt that the biggest camera rental house in the world? well at least in Los Angeles...

> 200 cameras...

Sounds like crazy numbers, but what do I know (nothing!). Does this mean next year people are going to be trying to find film cameras for a "different" look than what the mainstream is, given that everyone's gone to Red?

panavision never sleeps. ha. all over the world, so distributed amongst its locales its not too insane. though i could still easily be wrong... but the source was good and the news was exciting so i posted it...

as for 24 it was alluded to me that they were shooting the show on Red. I dont know how much of it, but I know they have more than one body...

That will be a great surprise!

The "old fellows" at Panavision never hold down their opinion about RED for anyone, and I mean anyone, that was willing to listen it; and it was condescending to say the least.
Actually, during the last NAB it was so evident their collective and exaggerated criticism that it didn't sound like something coming from a very established and respected company like Panavision.
We'll see.

Their purchasing manager refuses to pay for new equipment by any means other than credit card. So given the credit card payment conditions and limits at RED, they have made down-payments of 10% for 200 cameras over the past couple months. When RED calls to inform them of camera availability, they can apply necessary funds from monies already paid and will eventually walk away with 20 RED One cameras, paid entirely by credit card. :whistling:

Disclaimer: This post is nowhere near serious and should not be taken as such. I accept no responsibility or liability for ideas I may have placed into the heads of others. Including, but not limited to, ways of beating RED's $7500 maximum credit card payment restriction. :bleh:

Very interesting... I'd love to hear about the 24 thing if it's legit. Hopefully it is! That'd be some fantastic footage...

Rodney Charters is a big fan, but there is no word that the studio would support shooting "24" on RED.

If memory serves, they shoot their show in two-episode chunks [a la "movie of the week" style]. Has there been any consideration into "testing" the cameras for a chunk?

Or am I just getting way too specific? :)

Sooooooooo, you're saying there's a chance?

So definitely no prototype in Rodney Charter's hands?
