View Full Version : Renting RPP's in Boston

I have toyed with the idea of renting out my RPP's when not using them. I can measure and set BFL with my Richter bench and I also have alot of test charts, etc to qualify and test the lenses.

Does anyone else rent these out? What is the typical day rate. I figured $380-$450 would be the day rate.

Or do you think this is too risky of a proposition (of course they will be insured).

The RPPs were used on a job I was on the past two days and I assume they are Boston Camera/Rule's, although I suppose they could be a subrental. There aren't a ton of them around Boston, that much I know. So, you probably have some wiggle room in terms of rental price. If you can maintain them and assure good quality control, then there's probably a decent opportunity to rent them out.

Rent them, why not?
Also if you write $380-$450 me as a customer will go for the $380. So set a price. I think $450 is very right price, unless there are tens of RPP for rent in the Boston area, since these are very nice lenses.

Although I have yet to get them onto our website, Rule Boston Camera does have the Red Primes for rent. You can rent them individually for $95/day or as a set for $420/day so you were right on with the estimates in the thread. They look great although a bit heavier than I expected, and they are a great compromise if you can't afford our Cooke S4i primes. We also have some nice Optimo Zooms, but that's a different thread.

You can give our GM Brian Malcolm a call if you have anymore questions. This response is already looking too much like an advertisement. (Sorry about that.)

Take Care,

Andy, good to know. I assumed the ones we used that day were yours, I just hadn't seen them on the site. They are really nice lenses. I would agree on the weight. They give you a workout. But the quality is worth it.

I am definitely behind on getting new items on the website. There just seems to be so much being released all at once. We are also beginning work on a new website to showcase the combined companies of Rule, Boston Camera and Great Northern Video which has been taking up a lot of time as well.

Next to my desk are a couple of new Sony PMW-EX1/R cameras that I haven't even pulled out of the box. And we are putting together a bunch of accessories for our Canon 5D, 7D and Panasonic Lumix GH1 cameras.

Exciting times but just a bit too busy for me though you will never hear the boss complaining.

Might be too much of a PITA to maintain these. Andy, do you consign gear like this?
