I keep hearing rumors about the new 24-70L with IS coming early 2010, along with a revision of the 70-200L as well. Can any of you Canonites confirm and/or deny this? I own a bunch of Nikon glass that I use on my 7D but want to make the slow switch to Canon. The 24-70L was going to be the first lens I was going to get but then I heard about the revision and decided to wait.

My guess is that the optics might get some better coatings, The focus motors will get the latest generation motors ( like the new 100 macro IS ), and IS will be added to the 24-70.

All these will improve the usability of the lenses and will score better MTF charts tests...

Image quality of the 70-200's are stunning as is... the 24-70 will show the most improvement especially at the wide end.

Look for a revised 35mm f1.4 L ( my personal fav along with the 24 1.4 L II ) as well as a revised 50mm 1.2L.

I've not heard any rollout timeline..... but it is inevitable.

Hi Richard!

I was wondering the same thing here. I just recieved my Impero for my Birger mount. (works great right out of the box on the few Canon lenses I have tested so far)

I am looking at the 24-70 and am not in a huge hurry so will want to know if the 24-70 will come out new with IS. Since I use my lenses on my 5D, I would like to have the stabilization for sure.

Hope all is well with you. Call me when you are in the area again.

Alan

The 70-200L is on sale right now from B&H; $150 off. You could be onto something.

Er... Most all Canon lenses seem to be on sale right now, and Canon has additional rebates on most of them too. I don't think that is indicative of anything.

Rick,

Both of the lenses you mentioned are indeed getting a new revision.
I have high hopes for the 24-70mm. Mmmmmm.

Matthew, any leads on when that might be?

I've been told two different release dates, I'm more inclined to believe Spring 2010.
The other date was much sooner but I don't think Canon is going to drop new glass by the end of the year.

The only must upgrade I would like to see on the great 24-70 is a IF system don't care much for IS, but is welcome nonetheless.
