R3D Data Manager for Mac version 5.4 is released!

Updates in this release:

Added ability to store Red Media types with Identifiers. You can now set a Red Media type with a Media Identifier

Added ability to separate footage based on camera roll number, with a custom suffix. Now you just need to set a destination, and R3D Data Manager will automatically sort the footage based on the camera roll letter, creating the directory if it doesnt exist.

Changed the percentages shown in the copy window to be based on Gb copied / Gb to copy. This now more accurately reflects how far along into the copy process the program is.

Added a routine to prevent consumer drives from going to sleep, enabled in preferences. This method writes a small file to each destination every 60 seconds. The files are hidden, so they wont prevent normal operation.

New range of character sizes in timecode window burn. All the sizes are now smaller, the smallest being just a couple of pixels and the largest being about 10% of the window size.

Added timestamp and destination list as options to sms/email reporting. Now R3D Data Manager will append the time and destination list to email and sms messages, for a more complete picture of what is done and when.

New help window discussing options when checksums fail. This should help you to debug why a checksum error happened and what you can do about it.

Added detail to explain why registration is invalid or trial has expired.

Added more optimizations for Mac OS 10.6

Fixed registration window close button.

Fixed the following bugs: display of Red Media Identifiers, bug in display of R3D File Recovery window.

Upgrade Notes

If you are upgrading from version 5.1 or earlier: Due to an error in a 3rd party installer, you must install this upgrade manually. Please download the application from the link included in the upgrade notice inside R3D Data Manager and run the included installer manually.

This version is for Mac OS 10.5 & 10.6 ONLY. Due to some needed changes in the structure, we can no longer support Mac OS 10.4

If upgrading from 4.x or earlier: You will need a new key before using this version. We have emailed all valid users a key, so check your email before upgrading. You can always obtain your key at https://www.r3ddata.com/order/resend/

Hey Conrad-
Curious about the licensing of R3D Data Manager: is one license allowed for install on a single customer's desktop and laptop? I'd never be using them at the same time, nor would anyone else have access to either. I'd appreciate a direct answer from you...thanks!
Peace,

-Harry

In general, if the computer is owned by you, you can use the same license. If the computer is not owned by you, the owner needs their own license.

The complete EULA is here: http://www.r3ddata.com/eula/

Thanks for the sleep fix. I had been using Lingon to create a deamon to do the same thing. Was that one of my suggestions?

Hi Conrad !

I had the situation, that the camera didnt record one clip, the RDC Folder was creatied but no R3D in. Would it be possible that the DataManager would give you a warning if that is the case? And a second thing would be great, if the Manager could check if you have for example 10 shots on the mag and there is one RDC foler / clip fully missing that the software looks if all 10 clips are there, so at least 10 RDC folder with R3D files in..... ???

thx

Absolutely your suggestion, and something I now use all the time myself. Thanks for the suggestion.

As I said before, most of our features are suggestions - so keep them coming in!

Our MacBook Pros seem to be having kernel panics with R3D Data Manager 5.2 and 5.4 during the checksums. Anyone else having this issue?

Please send a copy of your kernel panic, setup configuration and steps to replicate the issue and Ill look into it. Obviously, we cannot duplicate the issue on the hardware we have.

Same Kernel Issue here on a 2008 MacPro 8core.... will send log files....

dont have an email address to send you that directly as the system profile...

Its a firewire error. Have you tried different cables and/or readers?

Rainer Fritz

Can you email me your setup, and details how to replicate?

Mac Pro 2008 Model, DataManager 5.4, FW800 cable, LEXAR pro CF reader, an it happens when the sw is creating checkums on the source volume.... probably an apple issue ?

I went out and purchased that exact configuration, and cant duplicate the issue. I still think its a hardware issue, as its the firewire IOkit thats crashing.

conrad... can you please add an warning if the Datamanager sees a RDC folder on the sourcedrive where no R3D file is in it, or when one clipnumber in between 1 and n is missing?

Ranier- We are adding a whole new section to the app that will verify R3D files. It would catch instances like this. Unfortunately, it wont make the 6.x release.

I've been looking into 5.4 as an alternative to Clipfinder. Looks great but is there a way to add Scene/Shot/Take Metadata to the rendered QT output files? Better yet, how about also having a .txt file that resides in each RDC directory with all the associated data inside? I've found Clipfinder can be shaky trying to get back to that metadata on another Clipfinder install. I want that data locked in stone!

Hi Conrad,

I have created an online app that will be used for archving, is it possbile to create an XML for each project which contains all clips names, metadata, copies, project names etc.... basically all info from projects.

I currently use CSV from redrushes... but would like to remove that step from the process. I want to take a project and import all the info via XML so the metadata can be used as a fingerprint

regards

Marcus
