Has anyone here seen Moon ? I just got it on blu-ray (it was not shown on cinema here in Norway otherwise I would have seen it long ago). I think itīs one of the best sci-fi movies released the last years. They did a great job especially when you consider the budget (Sunshine had a 50 million dollar budget, Moon had 5 million). Sam Rockwell also did an amazing jobb acting with himself!

I liked Moon. I was very impressed with the story and Sam Rockwell's performance. I hope there's some great making of footage on the Blu ray about how they pulled off the effects.

As for Sunshine... read my review if you dare... ;)

Yeah saw moon a while back and got to chat to Duncan Jones in a Q&A.. An interesting thing he mentioned with regards to making it look "expensive" on a budget was using miniatures instead of 3D for most of the shots if the trailers etc.. He talked about how big he was on 2001 and how somehow the miniature shots in those films still stand up today and wanted Moon to do the same.

The other thing that was quite cool was Sam's performance.. He was literally acting with himself hearing his takes through an earpiece.. Funny, Sams influence for this role was Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy..

Oh, and Duncan mentioned that he's working on a meta-sequel, where Sam comes back to earth and experiences life as an ostracized clone...

Cool.

I really admired what he did with this film. I enjoyed it a lot. And the miniatures worked great!

Jeff: I agree with what you stated in your review. I loved sunshine up until the third act where it turned all slasher.

I don't have anything against taking ideas from older sci-fi so long as they are done creatively and turned into something new. *SPOILER* Like for instance gerty in Moon where you are expect it turning into HAL 9000 every minute, but turning out the opposite. *SPOILER*

I loved that they used miniature models and combined it with cgi, the best of both worlds :)

On the DVD in the extra section should be a short film where I AC'd many moons ago ;)

On the way back from the shoot I got stuck when Swissair went bankrupt...

O.K., back to the thread.
