I'm probably not supposed to say anything, but nobody specifically told me not to.
A reliable source was just telling me how nice the footage looked that he was working on for a new kids movie by Robert Rodriguez. He said they were shooting on RED cameras with compact flash.

That is no surprise. Robert probably ordered 20 REDS.
RED is perfect for what he does. I would like to
see SIN CITY 2 shot on the RED.

its funny how "reliable" sources are usually unreliable :)
mark this unnamed report down as Rumor.

Considering RR is working extensively on pre-production for Sin City 2, i doubt he's filming a 'kids' movie with the RED. it'd be much more satisfying if he's shooting tests with the RED for Sin City 2. that would be sweet.

The "bogus" alarm went off in my head as soon as I read "kids movie by Robert Rodriguez"...

Ya ever hear of "Spy Kids"?

Jarred,
why mark it as rumour if its unreliable. should we not mark it as not true. unless...... is RR the other unamed red tester ?

ahhh HA! I am going to assume that this is true and Jarred tried to fool us with his wording. RR is shooting Sin City 2 on Red camera's, AND he's going to release it as a kids movie! it all makes sense now

When I saw the thread title I thought that Red was going to host an event in Austin. I got all worked up for nothing.

sometimes i think some folks here have to much time and not enough work.
it is almost like it is page 6 in the new york post and nearly as amusing. thanks for the entertainment.

RED should hold an event in Austin since the whole Final Cut Pro tour got botched as it was the only city in the tour that didn't get to see the Peter Jackson film (technical difficulties) or the actual RED camera. I was disappointed. I don't see why they haven't come here....other than them being extremely busy.

Austin would be nice (since I live there) but Dallas makes more sense, being a hub of television and commercial production. I'm certainly used to traveling in this state.
But, while on the subject, I'm planning on doing a big RED One event in Austin in November. I'll be inviting all my production contacts and welcoming all RED One owners in the region to attend as well.

Dallas does make more sense, but I see RED being used in more film production, which is why I was thinking Austin.
I'd be willing to come down from Fort Worth to the event. Although I won't be getting my camera and such until December, I'll be there and could network. Maybe if you hold off for a few weeks we can get a few cameras up in there :)

don't know about RR & Red ...
but i do know that at the end of december 06 i got a call from Gus Van Sant's producer & a Bent Image Lab Producer wanting to know about shooting RED for a short directed by Gus (one of those projects where they have 15 directors shoot shorts - it premiered at Cannes 07) ... bottom line no Reds available (i think they had just assembled the 1st camera)
... then we had to discuss a 2nd choice between genesis, viper , cinealta, varicam ...

RED was a no show in Dallas during the APPLE tour as well.
They said Ted went to a show in Australia. I think if I
had the chance I would go to Australia instead of Dallas anyday.
I think having a RED show in Austin would make more sense.....
There is more film activiity down there and maybe we could
get Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater to get involved.

I was at the Apple FCS2 tour in Dallas...I wrote what happened there in an earlier post.
Linklater, if he ends up doing another animated rotoscoping movie, may want the RED for visual effects. But, to be honest, I haven't really been a fan of any of his films. Nothing really happens in any of them.

lots of bogus claims out there...
I remember back in december 06' someone on craigslist looking for crew for their "independant, low budget feature film.. deffered payment..." they said "Shooting in a couple weeks with the red one digital cinema camera".. I totally called them out on it.

It's amazing what people do so they can get some feedback/praise for their upcoming projects. It makes me so upset as an independent filmmaker...so many people make us have bad names. Hopefully somebody will change that around......

I'm a big fan of RR but I think the first RED in Austin would probably go to Mike Curtis of HD for Indies. He may not have been one of the earliest rez holders, but he does have a rez and he is one of the first to ever see RED. It was a very smart move for RED to involve Mike in the early development. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an early RED for testing to be published on his blog.

Mike is a great guy, love his blog etc.
But he passed on his chance to get one of the very first cameras at NAb 2006. He was working the Red booth and could have been in the first 20.
Jim has promised no favoritism or line jumping. I'm confident Jim will keep his word.
The first Red in Austin will go to the one who deserves it, the first reservation holder from Austin. You know.......
The guy who had the courage, foresight and resources to jump in first.

...well, that's probably not me. I'm in the first #400, but just barely. and honestly, I'm OK to let some other early adopters work the bugs out of the system first. i wonder who it is? i would love a chance to see one up close. never been able to make it out to any of the conferences, and would love someone to give us a tour.
