View Full Version : LART- Can Still Happen In September

LART has been postponed to October. Why not September?
IF anyone receiving a camera in September is willing to let their cameras be used for LART, Can we still have it in September?
Gibby is the Executive Producer with the test schedule, group of people, location, etc...
As I understand it, some Executive Producers frequent the set occasionally with their name stamped all over the project because they had set everything up. Can this still be possible with someone else's camera? Someone receiving in September might be willing to participate, has this option been explored?
Green means Go. September becomes October, then another greenlight with a hot camera May put things off indefinitely. It's a small obstacle, there are another 50 cameras that maybe want to be used.
Gibby has assembled a talented group of people capable of handling a schedule with instructions for the tests. I would  to see it happen in September as planned.
I guess Gibby wants to be there.
I know, I would want to be there.
At the same time If I knew Thousands of people were expecting to know the results of that test, I wouldn't mind Not being there. Just that the report had my stamp of approval. I would do everything in my power not to let that many people down.

Hey Dex,
Great post and good questions. Just a summary of the key points about LART that are spread over a large thread for the benefit of the entire reduser community.
Steve Gibby and I are the LART producers. EP's usually package money and talent and then make "rock star" appearances on set as you mentioned. We are neither. The current scope of LART will not happen with out Steve and I hands on. Remember, it's 4 teams of more than 20 extremely talented industry veterans from VFX to lens gurus over 2 action packed days.
Yes, the bump to October is based on a greenlit project for us that requires our full time dedication in Sept. The project itself is much longer yet we are dedicating time in Oct to make it happen. Steve and I, and many of the LART volunteers, agreed that additionally the bump to October allows for the Red camera features that RED has posted on reduser to more than likely be enabled. This is huge. Given the enormous amount of resources we are pulling together to conduct LART, the added benefit of having the additional features enabled is HUGE FOR ALL OF US.
Steve and I are true believers of "all killer no filler" in what we put on the screen. This applies to LART. Rather than a partial testing based on limited features of the first 50 Red's to ship we are planning on a more dedicated feature rich analysis. Remember, the LART team is not being paid to do this. Steve and I truly believe that conducting LART as planned and sharing the information with the reduser community is just good business karma. I mean look at the community's idea and efforts to raise the $2,300 to provide professional catering for the LART event. That is really something.
Listen, we are all anxious to get shooting with RED. I'm certain some of the first 50 camera recipients will begin posting here about their impressions of RED. Steve and I have not been posting the enormous behind the scene efforts of many of the LART team members for obvious reasons. However, let me share with you a few key developments so that everyone gets it in terms of what we are up to...
We met yesterday with several veteran steadicam operators to review the plans for the LART test of the Red Actioncam that arrived from the boys in Europe. What a beautiful piece of engineering.
We have scheduled amazing talent and props for all the testing scenarios and are working on make up and wardrobe departments.
The amazing LART VFX team is building virtual worlds and sets that are quite remarkable for the green screen testing. One of the VFX team members toured the green screen stages and facility with me yesterday to plan the physical shoot.
And the list goes on and on. So, compare the big picture of LART in October to the rush it into production with out all the features enabled and Steve and I unable to give LART 100% due to work load in September and you may be more inclined to accept a minor schedule change.
Disclaimer - Hey, LART is not the end all of RED testing nor is it implied that we will be providing the RED owner's manifesto. There are a lot of very talented people in this community that will benefit and learn from LART and others that will build upon it.
Either way, it's all good. Keep the faith,
Sharky

We're all excited about the pending rollout of the first shipping RED One cameras. I mentioned in my thread-opening post for the delay of LART to October that I would anticipate some of the early receivers of RED cameras would surely post their impressions of their footage and cameras.
This forum is a dedicated LART forum - Los Angeles RED Test. If you guys want to solicit or propose non-LART footage or tests from early camera receivers that aren't connected to LART, then this is the wrong forum for that. It should be in the Off Topic forum.

Hi Steve,
Just want you to know that I did 20 hrs of sheet rock hanging just so I could ride the big grey doggie down for the Lart this month. I HATE doing sheet rock!
I'm so pissed off that this has been canceled that I'm loading up my truck with all my camping gear, and Jake and I are going off to the mountain lakes for ten days of serious fishing and relaxation. lol
See ya in Oct.

Hey Gibby - do you have a firm October date yet? I have a potential gig in 2nd week of October, but would love to cover LART if available.

Hey Mike,
Gibby is on the road to take delivery of #8. As the producer of LART I can say that there is no firm date yet. Let's give the RED team time to roll out cameras 1-50, attend IBC, release redcine and announce the subsequent camera releases and firmware/software upgrades during the coming weeks before setting the Oct date in order to fully maximize the results for the red community.
Cheers,
Sharky

Can we at least rule out weeks one and two? That would reduce it to a 50/50 gamble on scheduling. Something I can pretty easily deal with. I would rather get a later firm date sooner than a sooner firm date later.

Say that 3 times fast.
Gibby and I may be able to address the idea of which weeks in Oct next week. I'd guess after the Red team announces their new developments and schedule post releae of 1-50. Jim has just posted that software goodies will continue to be released for camera owners ongoing.
