Hi REDHKSC,
I see you posting lots of threads recently. I know you're excited about what
is going on in your region with what you're doing, and I think your threads
contain some interesting stuff.
Nevertheless, I'd really appreciate if you organized what you're posting beforehand.
It is very hard to read with so much unnecessary stuff going on in your posts.
Please, do us a favor so we can enjoy your messages.

May I say you are a simple person ? Complicated = 1st Heart + Nerve + Brain power.....you know what I am talking about ?
OK One example for all Americans :
WHY we need a million US pen on space from US Spacemen ?
Russia Spacemen just used a pencil to draw the line in the space. NO G Force needed ....Right ?
All we need to do is addressing the primary issue.
Again, if you still do not understand " CHINESE's Yin Yang Philog....)

Stewart,
I am sorry if you are disappointed in what you saw (I think that is what you are saying). "Crossing" was shot 4 months ago on Alpha prototypes and all "issues" have been discussed many times. After Steven Soderbergh saw the same presentation you just saw, 2K Pro-res projection, he called me to tell me he "was all in". So there seems to be a difference of opinion.
Although there is nothing in the emails you posted that I disagree with, it is not considered proper (at least by us) to post private communications. Something to consider going forward.
My best,
Jim

I'd be completely satisfied and still willing to pay the same price if all we got was what was shown at NAB, but I'm glad you've made it even better! Some people can find a problem with anything.

Stewart, your posts are usually spot and sometimes even prophetic, but the whole NASA pen thing is an urban legend.. Fisher Pen Co developed the pen internally and privately and then Nasa (and russia) bought some. No millions of dollars...

And you don't have to use a sharpener. All those damn shavings float around the capsule ...

I shall space pen in Hong Kong
And always have one in my pocket, US$3
Which could write in Space, upside down, in water, over grease and glasses.
With simple ideas they even have a Millenimum version which you could choice the way you would like your guaentee to be:
a. As long as your life
b. When first man ob Mars..
After the RED seminar in Hong Kong, I hope RED could have a better service paln for their product.

Hello everyone. First post here. I'm following with great interest the appearance of the RED camera. I've personally talked with some of the HK posters here (since I'm based in Macau, I usually go to HK for business).
First a word to Percy, one of the most humble big guns of HK Production. Digital magic is one of the companies I enjoyed more to work with. Now a couple of questions:
I see you where a bit disappointed with the RED showing. What particularly bothered you, compared to the Peter Jackson footage (seen the web videos of it)
I'm currently contemplating myself to either go for the RED, or the Panasonic HPX500 (I'm a very big Panasonic fan, and have been doing some successful commercials with Panasonic cameras untill now.)
As you know (Percy), this investment is for my own Filmmaking, and has nothing to do with my personal job.. So this will be for Independent filmmaking and/or workshops for a new generation of Macau filmmakers...
Cheers all

Yeah but a Sharpie will also give the atmosphere filtration system a run for its money lest the whole crew end up high as a kite by the end of the mission. :)

He's not using a translator because he's making spelling errors. Translation programs don't make spelling errors. Also... translators do a much better job.

Correct. NASA hasn't used a pen in space since test flights in the late '50s. The Fisher Space Pen has been sold world-wide since it came about and it was released to the general public for sale *before* NASA even signed a deal to buy the pen in quantity. FWIW, these pens originally sold for about $6 and they are still under $10 each today.
Several other types of writing instruments work in zero-g or excessive-g environments. Including most felt-tip marking pens and sealed-tube gel ink pens.

I don't see a problem with that... Especially if I were to be riding on our currently out-dated and ill-maintained space shuttles. I think I'd want to be pretty hammered for both launch and re-entry. :clown2:

I can't figure it out either. Aside from language issues, Stuart also seems to be culturally challenged as well. I don't know to many people from anywhere in the world that would publicly post demanding and insulting emails to large companies where they also cc'd dozens of industry professionals and company business people, including everyones' email addresses in the process.

My main concern is the real world application of the tool. You see, the HPX is, on paper, a "Fiat Punto" compared to the RED, which is a "Porsche".
But my concern is on the real world. By real world, I mean on the field usability/results VS costs.
Like I said before, I've been following the development of the camera with great interest (I don't believe any Independent filmmaker with concern on the cinematography part of their movie isn't following the development of this cam), and have come up with some interesting developments that made the camera much more desirable:
-CF card recording for 30 or 24/25p 4k
-HDD Recording mountable on Camera
-Prores codec support?
-Variable frame rates in 2k up to 100fps
However, this is my main concern: are these features already available, or are they to be included in the future? If I was to buy one camera now, would I be able to record to CF? Would the variable frame rates be available in 2k?
I'm also concerned after hearing the disappointing voice of some of HK cutting edge producers after seeing the prores demo...
Now what's good about the HPX? Proven workflow. Immediate availability. Good Picture for HDTV. Variable frame rates (but only to 1-60, and in 720p)- good service.
Full package at 20k vs 24k for a shooting ready RED. I would most certainly like to see a feature shot with the HPX and digiprimes vs RED...
Imagine I order now a RED- hipotetically, I would get it Summer next year?
Emanuel, you'll be one of the pioneers over there with the Red (like I was with the HVX over here;) )... I sincerely hope that you made the right move! I'm on the fence over here, and this is too much of a gamble to take... I'll be monitoring your progress and see if its worth it! (And what will the competition bring to the table?)
