Will you release Redcine online so we can mess with posted footage? Will you provide any footage or shall we wait for Gibby and Offhollywood? I'm mainly interested about Redcine and testing out a new computer I'm building.

Great new....just curius, what red accesories/lens ect won't be shipping at the same time as the cameras?

The 18-50mm CF zoom and 300mm lenses are ready. The cast rail system tooling is not done yet, so we built several machined sets (need to charge more) for those that need them now. We have CF cards, batteries and charger, cables and all you need to turn the camera on and record.

excellent.
The timing, btw, just before IBC is great - that will create excellent turmoil in Amsterdam this year.

RED Alert! must be the software for make-up artists which detects if talent/actor need new makeup for 4k, but not for 35mm@2k or 1080p, i guess.

That's awesome Blair!

My guess is that Red alert tells you if your recording media (cf) is fast enough to use with the Red One. My second guess is that it checks your files and tells you right after you shot them if they are OK, like file verification and integrity with one check.

Well, Jim owns #'s 1 thru 5... As for the ebay thing, I'm sure we'll see a couple, maybe, I kinda doubt it out of the first batch though. Personally, I think I could make a lot more money using the camera than re-selling it for a quick buck.

Red Alert was explained last week, don't you guys remember?. It is the cable attachment you place over people's hearts when they fall to the floor in a mumbling, shaking mass of excitement and disbelief after seeing 4K footage for the first time. Once secured to the person's chest, it sends a jolt of electricity to revive them ER style.

I look forward to collapsing in this very fashion and hope that my DIT has read the manual to ensure he knows how to work Red Alert. Afterall, I cannot wait to swallow my own tongue and urinate in my pants from the sheer overload of HD love and goodness.

(Note to self: Objective for the day is complete. Use the words 'urinate', 'tongue', 'love' and 'goodness' all in the same sentence).

BTW - Does Red take credit cards for purchase? Sorry, bad joke.

Does anyone know what the approx. highest reservation # is ? I'm a few months from taking the plunge and just sort of wondering if there's like 3,000+ pending orders and the highest ones won't ship until mid-2008+. I'd hate to wait like 6-9 months. I assume once production hits 4th gear it won't be so bad. Has there been a mention of how many units would ship per month at full production speed?

Congrats 2. I'm hoping the red store will upgraded all it's parts soon... and the RED LANDERS ON EARTH can tell us what they think of all the RED and 3rd party accessories - now that LART is um working for a month unlike the Iraqi government... I think... ;-)... when a few of us 100-200 red holders need to make some big financial choices...

I'd love to see the red store list every part separately like the power grip so we can make some decisions... I'm not reserving anything until everything is broken down and more specs are posted... so lets see the battery specs, etc... do I need 2 or 4 for a day in the Bahamas? Keep up the good work RED... please give us the fuil info to make make some choices... thanks!!

i saw no one answered your post yet so i'll start. awhile back it was around 2000. i'd say from 2000 to 2500 but thats just a guesstimate. if you ordered now, i'd say april/may-ish but you should check with a Red team member.

It's funny I was at the NAB booth at 9 AM when they first released the specs for the planned system. I remember as a post/vfx guy thinking my god what have they done. The iPhone and RED in this same year of 2007. This will be quite a year for the history books, indeed. Amazing times.

Red Alert is kind of like Spider senses it tells you the crime rate of whatever city you are in through GPS. :)

That's awesome Blair!

My guess is that Red alert tells you if your recording media (cf) is fast enough to use with the Red One. My second guess is that it checks your files and tells you right after you shot them if they are OK, like file verification and integrity with one check.

I like your second guess idea. But the verification should be done while you are transferring the files from the recording medium to a backup solution. RED ALERT would be an application on the computer like RED QUICK is.

And my guess is, the RED alert is a worldwide organisation which delivers help for every REDuser and his REDone in trouble. Example: RED 222 deep in the jungle, broken by silly monkeys, so you press on a REDknob and they beam you down a new camera.

...The cast rail system tooling is not done yet, so we built several machined sets (need to charge more) for those that need them now....
You know, in 20 or 30 years these will be highly prized collectors items!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for a set of machined rails. But I'm sure the cast rails will be top quality anyway. I'm just a crazy collector when I get started on something. I always want to have every accessory with all the documentation, etc.. I'll probably end up buying one of every product that RED makes, even if I don't need it.

Will the other units follow the schedule already known?

The 18-50mm CF zoom and 300mm lenses are ready. The cast rail system tooling is not done yet, so we built several machined sets (need to charge more) for those that need them now. We have CF cards, batteries and charger, cables and all you need to turn the camera on and record.

Just to clarify since it is not mentioned here, are the RED-DRIVEs also going to be ready at ship time? I understand that you have fallen in love with CF, and while that should prove to be a great option for many settings (I will definitely be getting the module myself), I also see lots of times where the vastly extended recording times of the RED-DRIVE will prove to be more applicable. Since Peter Jackson was using one way back in April, I would wager that the drives are ready, too, but since you didn't specifically list it I didn't want to assume. Forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere.

I don't think so, Häak. I didn't read it. I hope I may have my RED DRIVE next October 10th and yours in September since Jim has only mentioned the freeware upgrade or further updates, nothing else.

Is there any way to post how geeked up I am to have reservation #19 without coming off like a total asshole.

Blair, at times like this, you're allowed, hehehe.

Since Peter Jackson was using one way back in April...
Was that a "genuine" Red Drive or was it a more generic eSATA raid setup? Either way, as I recall they lost a day of shooting from the helicopter due to vibration making the drive unable to write correctly. Maybe that caused a re-think about the drive design generally.

As camera #22 - we are picking up friday,.. and filming Sat in LA ;-)

But then it is returning home to OZ

We have events planned with ACS here so everyone locally can get their hands on one - especially other reservation holders

Mike

Flight booked. :w00t:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we only have to pay the remainder on the items that are shipping right? I will pay for the remainder of the prime set and other accessories later, correct?

Also, would you mind posting an exact list of what is shipping (for budgeting reasons)? Jim you didn't mention a viewing option shipping but perhaps thats what you meant when you said "everything needed to turn it on and shoot". So is that both the viewfinder and LCD or just one of em.

Thanks so much.

Too optimistic... since we have changed how we are recording REDCODE RAW (variable file size) it is not so easy to certify a CF card. A 266x Transcend will work under some conditions, then readily drop frames on a complex scene. Not all 300x work. I think at today's prices, $199 seems about right for a certified RED 8GB CF card. Prices should drop over time. But there is currently a CF card shortage. The SanDisk Ducati looks like it will work, but prices on that card is over $300 for 8GB. Remember that not all CF cards really perform as spec'd. We are discovering the secrets of the flash industry.

We will have a list ready for Friday.

Jim

perhaps we'll see more than just a list of compatible cf cards this friday.
