Few months ago we have gathered a small team in order to develop new products and accessories in video equipment.
We have informed RED about our plan. Our goal is to provide reasonably priced quality solutions providing greater creative freedom to independent professionals.

First products we will introduce are digital follow focus and zoom/iris unit, both aimed at photographic lens users.

The basics

System will consist of follow focus unit, zoom/iris unit, motor controller and three motors with adapter rings.
User will be able to mount units on various locations. We will offer different ring adapters as well as motors.

Follow focus unit is meant to replace usual follow focus systems, allowing greater control and more advanced features than typical mechanical units.
It will feature a multifunctional display with focus, iris and zoom data. User will be able to save lens data (markings) for each lens and restore them when changing lens.
Focusing knob will have adjustable rotation ratio for lens with shorter focus.

Zoom/iris unit is meant to serve as a holder as well, similar to ENG cameras, with additional ability of location independent mounting.
User will be able to control zoom and iris with one hand.

Later we plan to offer a wireless control add-on module for this system.

Some of the upcoming features

Follow focus unit

-Digital lens markings
-Electronic stops
-Variable knob rotation ratio (presets & user adjustable)
-Saveable lens data with lens database (user created)
-Switchable sides
-Switchable rotation
-Anodized aluminium alloy body

Zoom/iris unit

-Data displayed on follow focus display
-Zoom control
-Iris wheel
-Zoom speed wheel
-Anodized aluminium alloy body

There will be no pre-stored lens data. Lens data input procedure will last few minutes per lens, first time only.
Also we decided not to include breathing compensation because we believe the process is more practical to solve with two quick steps in post.

Price will be very fair. We will provide more details later.

This is a first draft of FF's design.
All subject to change, offcourse.

Hi. Why aren't you just interfacing your system with Red's own servos?

Sounds great! I agree about the breathing compensation being easier to fix in post. Will you be making Canon & Nikon mounts?

Hi. Why aren't you just interfacing your system with Red's own servos?

This concept makes the system camera independent. We are interested for providing compatibilty with RED's own motors, though.

That is not our plan, at least not in near future. We have some other things in mind.

Wait... I'm confused. Is this product supposed to work with still photography lenses? Or did I misinterpret your description?

You didn't misinterpret it.

Motors will control the lens through adapter rings. We will provide metal rings with different radiuses.

Glad you like it, Sanjin.

We'll announce the price once we test few different options and components, but as I said it will be very fair.

We can guestimate availability only after thorough testing period.
I would like to use this when my baby arrives. ;)
